“I know exactly where she went and why she’s been cryin’.Our parents got back from their trip and demanded we all show up for dinner.It was nothin’ more than a fuckin’ ambush.They brought in her ex’s parents who did nothing more than treat my sister like a piece of shit.They’ve always treated her terribly.Now it’s even worse because she had their son arrested for beating the hell out of her and putting her in the hospital.It didn’t happen once, but multiple times.Right now, the ex is waiting for his sentencing but it keeps getting delayed for one reason or another.

“Barb and David always talk shit about Nessa and make her feel lower than shit.Our parents haven’t treated her much better over the years if I’m being honest.We have a younger sister and she’s the princess of the family in their eyes.She’s a spoiled bitch and uses every single opportunity to be horrible to Janessa.Anyway, words were said and Janessa was basically kicked out of the family because she has a son out of wedlock and is nothing more than a slut.Yes, our father actually called her a slut,” Aaron says as rage fills my veins and I know it’s just a matter of time before I deal with her parents in one way or another because they’re vile pieces of shit.

“Are you fuckin’ kiddin’ me?Tell me you did somethin’ while you were there?”Tease questions Aaron, his voice hard and cold as he keeps his eyes locked on me for a reaction.

“I’m not kidding you, Tease.Our parents were worse to Janessa than they’ve ever been in the past.They completely tore her down and it broke something inside her.She didn’t cry while we were at our parents’ house, but I could see it in her eyes.Janessa doesn’t let a lot get to her, but today fucking broke her in ways none of us have ever seen before.Our brothers all left with her and made sure our parents knew never to contact us again.We’re on her side and always will be.I have no idea what’s about to happen, but it’s gonna be bad.Really bad.Janessa will have our parents and her ex’s after her now.They won’t hesitate to go after Kaden to get to her, Tease.We’re planning on moving down there with her, but it can’t happen yet.We’re still trying to get everything taken care of,” Aaron says, making the rage fill me even worse than before as I jump out of my seat and start pacing on top of the roof.

“We’ll keep a close eye on her.I have a feelin’ she’ll have her own personal bodyguard startin’ tonight,” Tease says, a smirk on his face as he looks at me with the phone still sitting on his knee.

“Knuckles finally ready to step up and be the man my sister needs him to be?”Aaron asks, amusement filling his voice through the phone.“We know you all had the paternity test done.Must have gotten the results back.You fuck with her, Knuckles, you’ll have to answer to the three of us again.This time we won’t hold back and you’ll hurt more than ever before.”

“If I hurt her again, you can do whatever the fuck you want to me.Her son is mine and I will die for the two of them.I haven’t talked to her yet, but tomorrow I’ll make sure she knows how things are gonna be movin’ forward, Aaron,” I assure her youngest brother as I stop near Tease and wait to find out what’s gonna be said next.

“Don’t let Barb and David get close to her, Knuckles.They’re bad people and will do anything to get their hands on Janessa.Her ex is their son and they’re desperate for him to be released from jail.Now that they know about Kaden and had a bombshell dropped on them about their precious son, they’re gonna be out for blood.I’m really worried about her and what’s gonna happen,” Aaron says, his voice showing us how scared he is for his sister.“Knuckles, you need to protect her and make sure they don’t get their hands on her.The fire at her house, they were behind it.Not to mention all the times they’ve confronted her, broken into her home, and everything else I don’t have the first clue about.”

“No one will get close to her if I have my way,” I vow to Aaron, knowing I’ll do everything in my power to ensure Janessa and my son are safe and no one gets close to them.

“I’ll believe you for now, Knuckles.Don’t fucking let me down.Don’t let Janessa and Kaden down,” Aaron says before hanging up the phone as I stand and look at Tease not sure what my next move will be.

“What the fuck is goin’ on?”Tease finally asks me, confusion filling his voice.

“I have no clue.The only ones who know will be Janessa, Rooster, and Brick.Someone needs to start fuckin’ talkin’ and it needs to happen right fuckin’ now!”I yell, wanting to throw something because all of this shit could have been prevented if it weren’t for everyone keeping fucking secrets.

Sitting down in my chair once again, I slump back and realize I know my son’s name now.Kaden.Does he have my last name?What’s his full name?So many questions about the baby and Janessa’s situation circle through my mind as I look out at the compound but don’t truly see anything.I need to talk to my girl and get to know my son sooner rather than later.It’s the only way I’ll be able to protect her and Kaden.If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that I never go back on my word and I’ll die trying to protect someone.This time, I have so much more on the line with the lives of Janessa and our boy being at stake.

Chapter Fourteen

Janessa

WAKING UP, THERE’Sknocking on the door of my cabin.I sigh because Kaden didn’t really sleep last night and with all the crying I’ve been doing since leaving my parents’ house, I’m exhausted and ready to sleep the day away.Apparently, someone else believes it’s more important for me to get my ass out of bed at the crack of dawn for some reason.All I know is this better be fucking important.Looking down at Kaden in his bassinet, I watch as he sleeps peacefully and doesn’t stir despite the banging sounding through the small cabin.Grabbing my robe off the end of the bed, I wrap it around myself considering I’m wearing a thin tank top and pair of panties.Without knowing who’s at the door, I have to cover my body up somehow.No one gets to see me.Especially after all the changes my body’s been through since having my son.

“I’m coming,” I whisper shout as I leave my room and almost get to the door, grumbling under my breath about beating the shit out of whoever thought it would be a good idea to knock right now.

Opening the door, I stumble back in shock as a fist almost slams into my forehead.

“Janessa, are you okay?”Knuckles asks me, his voice a whisper as he steps in closer to my body and looks my body over from head to toe.
