I nodded and panted, too far gone to be able to use words.
“I’m fucking fallin’ down on the job.” He rocked into me as best he could until my little orgasm was done.
Chapter 7
“Thanks for dinner and a shower.” I sat on the corner of his bed putting my heels back on. After we recovered from all the sex Theo offered up his shower. When I got out there was a bathrobe and a note telling me to meet him in the kitchen.
I’d found him in only a pair of boxers, putting out plates of chicken salad sandwiches. Apparently it’s his favorite food and he keeps it stocked. Lucky for me that meant I wasn’t headed home starving.
Now I was fed, hydrated, and dressed. And while my body was still strangely satisfied, I also felt oddly empty.
What had we done? I kept getting it into my head that I had some sort of special knowledge about Theo, that he was different around me, that we had a special connection. But that was ridiculous. You can’t possibly know things like that in so short a time.
Hormones and a lack of sex had clearly driven me to insanity. To see things that weren’t there. Sure the sex was good (okay, great) but that was a physical reaction of two young, healthy people. The rest was in my head. I’d let my body take charge and my brain had let it all happen.
It wasn’t the smartest thing I’d ever done.
But Theo had some sort of special magic dust that made me forget everything but him. It wasn’t my fault. At least that was what I was going to keep telling myself until I left London.
“So, I’m gonna go…” I stood up, feeling awkward for the first time.
“Martin will take you home.” Theo was still in boxers watching me dress. He was obviously not going anywhere.
“Thank you.”
“Of course.” He half-sat on a bookcase, his arms crossed protectively over his chest.
“So I’ll see you…?”
“We’ll have a meeting in a week after I approve all the plans.” He was suddenly all business.Formal. Clipped. I didn’t like it.
“I’ll see you then.” I started for the door. The room was getting smaller by the moment and I just wanted to be home in my own bed. Apparently Theo wasn’t lying when he said he was work-obsessed and didn’t make time for fun. If he could throw a switch and be back in work mode, then so could I. For self-preservation reasons.
He was in front of me before I could get four steps. “Stop. Don’t leave like this.”
“Like what?”
He growled and ran his hand through his hair. Looking everywhere but at me. “I don’t… I don’t know how to do this, okay?” He looked totally lost and I got the impression Theo was never lost.
“Do what, exactly?”
“This!” He threw his hands out. I liked the intensity in his eyes and the way it seemed to come from somewhere deep inside.
“You mean sex? Theo… I gotta tell you, you’re doing a great job. You don’t need to worry about that. You’re kind of awesome at it.”
He grinned, the frustration disappearing for a moment. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
He cleared his throat. “That’s not what I meant. I mean, it’s fucking fantastic you enjoyed it, but that’s not what I’m talking about.”
He was flustered, frantic even. This wasn’t a fuck-and-run for him anymore than it was for me. He was in complete denial and totally confused by the way he was feeling, but it was there.
It was all there. I just needed to unlock it.
Danger.Warning bells went off left and right in my brain. I ignored them all.
I wanted Theo. He was the exact man I’d always wanted, but didn’t think existed. Strong, passionate, sexy, powerful, flawed, and a little bit mad.
