“Exactly.”

“Do you have any hard limits?” Then she shook her head again, the smile not fading. “You probably have none.”

“I hate to disappoint but I would prefer it if I didn’t have to swallow or inhale any wax.”

Scarlett went slack-jawed. “That’s a thing?”

“Anything can be athing, Scarlett.”

“Okay, so no consuming the wax.”

“And it’s a mess to get out of my hair.”

She nodded her understanding. “I’ll be careful.”

Ezra bit his lip, mulling over his next thought. He worried about voicing it, but he’d promised to stay honest with her. “If you were to use wax on my face at any point, I would prefer that you have my eyes covered.”

Scarlett paled. “I’ll make sure to remember that.”

“And for your safety, wax can splash.”

“Oh…” Scarlett looked down at the pretty dress she’d changed into once they’d returned home, and hastened to her feet. “Don’t move.”

A few moments later, she returned in more comfortable clothes: leggings and a tank top. “Stunningly beautiful as always,” he complimented, offering her a hand to guide her back down to the blankets.

“Would you like to lie down?” she asked nervously.

“We can always change positions if either of us feel the need.” He pulled a pillow closer and laid on his stomach next to her. “The higher up you hold the candle, the more the wax will cool before it hits my skin.”

“So, the closer I go, the more intense the sensation for you?”

“Yes.”

“And you will tell me when to stop?”

“I will. And you can stop at any time too. This is as much about your comfort as it is about mine.”

“Thank you. It really helps that you keep reminding me.”

“I’ll remind you of it every day of our lives.”

That made her laugh, and the light melody seemed to take some of the edge off. He turned his head towards her while still lying comfortably on the pillow and blankets she’d provided. With his entire body prickling for this new adventure, he watched her pick up a candle. He didn’t dare move, nor did he utter a word as she focused on the candle and lifted it high over his back. Time slowed as she tilted the candle to release the first drop. The wax hit his skin and Ezra hissed, the sound turning to a deep, satisfied hum when the heat of the wax seeped into his skin.

She let out a long breath and traced the hardening wax on his spine. “How was that?”

“Good,” he groaned.

“You must think I’m a scaredy cat.”

“Scarlett, look at me.” He knew how much she loved her name rolling off his lips and it did exactly what he wanted. Her eyes found his, and he had her undivided attention. “I think you are very brave to try something new with me.”

She visibly soaked up his words and then looked at the candle in her hand. “Would you like me to try it closer this time?”

“I would love that very much.”

He closed his eyes, letting the sensation surprise him this time. He groaned when the warm wax prickled on his skin, drawing the sound out when more splattered on his shoulder blades. There was no pain, just warmth tingling through him as Scarlett tested her own limits.

The next drop was hot, and he couldn’t help the lazy smile forming on his face, when her thumb caressed the skin around the hardening wax. Scarlett was becoming more comfortable with each second.
