Prologue
The Captain’s Office
Two Weeks Prior
Undercover Op
Honestly, Detective Corbin Price wasn’t quite sure what the hell was going on that he’d be called to the boss’ office. That was a rarity for him since he tended to stay out of trouble.
His reports were on time, and he always made sure to check-in with Captain Guy to cover his bases.
Now, all he knew was he’d been working on a run-of-the-mill homicide when he’d been alerted by another detective that he needed to head back into the precinct.
For a meeting.
To say that he was befuddled would be an understatement. Captain Oliver Guy only called you in from a case if you were in some serious shit, or you were being yanked from an assignment.
He didn’t think either applied to him.
Being Alice’s son, he walked a fine line, or someone she worked with would rat his ass out, and they, he’d be dealing with her.
Corbin believed in being good at his job, and that was why being called to the Homicide Captain’s office was confusing as hell.
He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t been trying to figure out what he’d done. In fact, he toiled over it the entire way into the precinct.
Yeah, he was pretty sure he was okay. There was nothing that he’d done in the short time since his last major case at Christmas.
Had someone started a rumor out of jealousy since he had closed the mother of all homicides?
Were they stirring the pot?
That tended to happen since he was the youngest homicide detective in the squad.
All he knew was that they were smack dab in the middle of January, and the only thing he’d been bitching about was the weather.
But everyone was complaining about that. Mother Nature was hormonal, and being a bitch pretty much every day.
Unfortunately.
Other than that, he was doing the job, and Corbin was living his best life.
It had been a good two weeks of his new relationship with Will Barker, an attorney that he’d fallen for, and he’d spent all of his downtime with him.
Granted there wasn’t much time with both of their work schedules, but they managed to see each other daily.
You know…
To keep the magic alive.
Daily, they’d go from his place to Will’s, and back again, rotating whose bed they slept in each night.
And fornicated in.
While Corbin wanted more than just sex, he had to admit that it was damn nice to have that familiarity each and every day. To be able to go to bed with someone you genuinely cared about, even loved, was something he’d never thought that he’d have.
In fact, he was so wrapped up with Will, that he’d not even been up Ethan’s or Gene’s asses.
And that was a miracle in itself.
