Gene had been cranky all week, burning the midnight oil, making sure that they had a file so thick that Landry would hang just for breathing the wrong way—if he ever got away from Gabe and Gitmo.

And now, he’d been out on a donut run?

What?

This was anything but normal.

Yes, his note said he’d be right back, but he’d been bitchy about either of them leaving the condo all week because of Hughes.

And now he had done just that?

“I’m going to assume in the spare room with Will,” he admitted.

When Gene put the donuts down, he whistled down the hall, getting everyone’s attention.

“Kids! Donuts,” he called. “Dad picked them up,” he joked, busting ass.

Corbin and Will came out, and they looked to have been up for a while.

The last few days had been difficult for Corbin.

Knowing that Landry was out there…

It was killing him.

Ethan hoped they would find him soon.

“I was in the mood for donuts,” he said, passing out coffees, and opening the lid to the donut box.

He pointed.

“Corby, that’s the crotch goblin special. I got it just for you,” he said.

The donut was covered in pieces of chocolate, candy coated pieces, and colorful sprinkles.

It was chaos on a donut.

Corbin took the coffee, but he wasn’t in the mood to eat. He was too scared to do anything. It was all about how Landry would get him.

Was it irrational?

Yes.

But he was struggling with it, and that worried everyone there. If he wouldn’t leave the condo, he’d never get back to his life.

“I’ll just have coffee.”

Gene shrugged.

“Well, we’ll save you that one. It’ll be here if you change your mind. I, on the other hand, am having a donut,” he said, a little too happily.

Yeah, this was suspicious.

The whole time he was grinning and eating that donut, Ethan was watching him.

The man he loved was against the counter, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a Boston crème filled donut—his favorite.

Had the pod people come?
