Someone got in more trouble than Ethan. They already had to watch their backs because Javier was out on bail. They didn’t need Corbin going undercoverANYWHERE.
“When we get back, you’ll be riding with us. So get your shit together, get your medical clearances, and for god’s sake, stop smiling like a lunatic.”
Oh, he couldn’t help himself.
Will was amused.
“I don’t know. He’s still in a cast. Can he come back with his arm like that? Shouldn’t he have to wait four more weeks?”
Corbin sputtered.
“Whose side are you on?” he asked. “Don’t talk them out of this. This is a gift. Clearly, they’ve hit their heads and forgot how much I torment them.”
They didn’t.
They just planned on taking the time to train a cop and make him the best damn detective this city had ever seen.
Corbin had an idea.
“I’m kind of hungry. Would you guys like to come with Will and myself?”
Ethan was curious.
“Where are we going?”
He knew the opportunity he was being given. There was no way he was letting this beat him down. Corbin knew that working with Gene and Ethan would make his reputation as a damn good cop.
And it would heal him.
He was going to learn from them, and take it all in. There was no doubt in his mind that he was going to be just like them. One day, he’d be able to keepPhillysafe when they went home.
“I think I should swing by Alice and John’s to say hello. She’s been doom texting me every day about how she misses her crotch goblin.”
They smiled.
Yeah, Corbin was going to be okay. With Landry dead, and now a new chance to be out in the field safely, the man was fighting to get back.
They’d bet on it.
“I could eat,” Ethan said. “I’m peckish.”
Gene too.
“We’ll follow you and Will,” Gene said.
He wanted to ride alone with his man.
Why?
Oh, well, he had to tell him what Gabe had over their head now. Yeah, Ethan knew that he’d taken out the Landry trash, but he didn’t know about the extra year Gabe tacked on as payment for giving him a location for Landry.
