"I insist, Mama. It is my home and the duty of a Godly wife, as you know," I spoke with saccharine sweetness before heading off towards the dining table where Adah sat.
"I'm sorry about Mama," I whispered, sipping into the seat beside her.
"There is nothing wrong with Mama," she spat back defensively. Apparently that was not the response she was hoping for.
"How have you been, Adah?" I asked again, hoping now that we were a little more alone, she would open up to me.
"I am just fine, Ruth," she replied, sitting up straighter and fixing the mask that I was starting to think all women of Zion wore.
"Are you excited for the new baby?" I asked with wide grin. I loved being an aunt and missed my niece terribly. I was truly excited for Adah to have this new baby as well.
"Of course I am, Ruth. God has surely blessed us abundantly." Her words sounded recited, more so than they ever had, but I did not miss the way her hand stayed firmly on her belly. Perhaps where she could feel the little one kick.
"Yes, He truly has," I agreed with sincerity. "I'm truly so happy for you Adah. Do you have names picked out yet?" I asked excitedly. That seemed to soften her a little as she turned and her smile brightened.
"Actually, we have been discussing —"
"Oh, Ruth there you are! Come, come. You have guests in the living room. You can't just sit around in the dining room being lazy!" Mama tutted, bustling into the room about as gracefully as a bull in a room filled with fine china. She pulled me from my seat and I mouthed the wordsI'm sorryas I headed towards the living room. I missed my sisters. When I entered the living room, Levi caught my eye and I swear my heart simultaneously thudded to a complete stop and yet raced on a head. I missed my sisters, but I would not trade this life with Levi for anything.
Perhaps Mama was right about one thing. Perhaps God would bless us soon.
CHAPTER19
LEVITICUS
"That was …" Ruth trailed off as we pulled back the covers on the bed that night.
"Exhausting," I filled in on a heavy and emotionally laden sigh. I crawled into bed, finding my space beside her and immediately drawing her into my body. "This. This makes everything better," I murmured into the back of her hair.
"You could at least turn the light off," she giggled, but snuggled back into me nonetheless. There was something about the way she fit into me, the way she smelled that just made me want to sleep.
That wasn't true.
It made me want to fuck her until she screamed. Made me want to hold her close. Made me want to laugh with her. Made me want to...
My thoughts cut off as she yawned loudly. It made me want to stay like this forever.
"I will in a second. I want to kiss you first," I explained, nudging her to roll over and face me.
"You need the lights on to kiss me?" she all but scoffed.
"No, not necessarily. But I do need the lights on to see the way your pupils dilate with the passion we feel together after our kiss ends. I need to see the way your cheeks flush and your entire body melts into me." Her eyes widened just as she settled around facing me. Her lips parted in surprise and I took advantage of the situation, stealing a kiss from this woman I called wife.
Wife. That was still a strange word. After a month of marriage, somehow today was one of the worst. Perhaps it was the sheer amount of people who had decided to bombard our home with no warning, forcing us to play happy hosts to the gaggle of them all. I suppose it was not true that we were fully unprepared. Ruth had been told by Adah that it was a fairly common practice and had even gone so far as to make drinks and food for everyone. She had been completely right, which had completely ruined my day. All I had really wanted to do was to take her down to the playroom and tease her body for hours upon hours. Even after everyone had shown up, it was still my plan for when the house was empty again. However, we were both so tired by the time we had shown our last guest out and then cleaned up the house. We had quickly readied for bed, and now here she was, her lips on mine, her curves fitting into my hands like the missing puzzle piece I had never imagined I would find.
"You are so good at that," she murmured against my lips.
"Mm, as are you." One last kiss and she turned again in my arms, settling in while I reached back for the bedside light. "Tomorrow is going to be strange," I commented absentmindedly.
"Why is that?" she asked, her ass wriggling against my groin and making it hard to choose sleep over more exciting bedroom activities.
"Tomorrow my brothers are coming to visit for dinner. It will be interesting seeing them with you, you with them." I felt her stiffen in my arms and chuckled. "Don't worry. They don't bite. Well..."
She flipped around in my arms as fast as she could with jerky movements.
"Well? What exactly doeswellmean, Leviticus Temple?!" she nearly shrieked.
"That's a conversation for another night, Ruth Temple," I chuckled. I didnotwant to get into a discussion about my brothers and their individual kinks tonight. "By the way, I wanted to say that you did wonderfully tonight."
