“What about your son?”Briar asked Serenity.
Serenity looked up with troubled eyes and told her, “He’s with Anita and moving to where the others are.He’ll be safe with her.”
Briar nodded.
Artem came over and said, “Come on, we have to get you to safety.”
Briar shook her head.“I’m not going to a safe house.I won’t hide from this.I can’t run when I’ve got friends who might need me.”
“Sergi won’t let you stay here.”Nicky shook his head.
Briar shrugged and replied, “Then don’t tell him.He's got enough on his mind he won’t notice I’m not here.”
Artem paused to ask, “Where are you going to be if not here?”
Briar smiled.“I’m going to be where they least expect me to be and they won’t even see me.”She leaned in close and brushed her lips over his.When she stepped back, she smiled.“Catch you later, baby.I’ve got places to go and people to see.”She calmly walked to the door but before she left she looked back at Artem and whispered, “Don’t you get hurt, you hear me?I’ll be back and looking forward to marrying you.”Then she walked out .
Artem looked over at Nicky and Serenity.Shaking his head he said, “What the hell?”
Serenity smirked.“That’s Briar for you.She’s gonna fight this her own way.Come on, we'd better get down to security and get set up.Just don’t mention this to Sergi, he has to concentrate on other things.”
Artemy nodded and went to get a team together.His guys were all on the next floor down.
Nicky and Serenity made their way down to the sub floor.They’d used it a time or two before.Someone was always looking to make trouble.
The basement wing was encased in cement and steel, yet it had great reception for everything.Nicky, Felix and Kirill had put in a responder that beat any system they could think of.
While getting set up, Sergi watched them all carefully but he didn’t say a word.
Time ticked by slowly and when the clock hit the 3 p.m.everyone tensed.Artemy and Mario’s plane would have touched down by this time.Serenity had tracked down their plane and it was on the ground by this time.She had gotten into the TSA’s security system and they all watched as people were getting off the plane and going through customs.
Everyone held their breath as Artemy and Mario went through the line.They were allowed to walk out of the airport and then were met on the outside by another group of four men.They whisked into the heart of the city.
When the car they were in disappeared into the city’s traffic Sergi felt every eye in he room shift to him but he just stood there letting the images of the older man being greeted by his followers sink in.Now anything could and would happen and he prayed he was ready for it.
The tension grew as the room went quiet.
War had just arrived in New York City
