Chapter Five
Viktor and the Nomadswalked in, silently followed by the Ghost crew.
Viktor smiled slightly.“What?Did you think we wouldn’t hear about this?We are here to protect the Bratva.”
Sergi nodded at him.“Spasibo, Viktor.
“What do we know for sure at this point?”Viktor asked as he stepped closer.
“Artemy and Mario have arrived,” Nicky told them.“They were met by four other men outside the airport and they disappeared into the city.We don’t know their agenda but we think they are coming here to take Sergi out.”
“Duraki.”Viktor snorted.Fools.“That isn’t going to happen.”He looked over at Sergi and asked, “Where do you want us?”
“We can handle things inside the hotel. We could use more men on the outside as I sent quite a few with the families. You know what to do.We’re hoping to keep the damage contained if we can.”
Viktor nodded.“We can send three to the roof and the rest of us will spread out to protect the hotel and surrounding areas.”
“Let them make the first move,” Sergi instructed.“We need to identify the enemy here before they strike.”
Viktor nodded, then the Nomads and the Ghosts filed out of the room. They all disappeared into the vastness as only they could.
Sergi turned back and watched the screens yet nothing moved yet.
Just before dusk hit the city, something seemed to be happening, yet nothing showed on the screens.Everyone felt the tension rise.
An incoming call broke the silence.
When Felix answered it, he put it on speaker.
They all heard Viktor’s voice, “Brace yourselves, there is a drone coming our way and I think it's armed.”Then the call ended as the hotel shook and the evening sky lit up from something exploding high above the street.
Debris rattled down hitting the windows of the hotel.Sounds of breaking glass and bits of the building falling down.Dust rumbled up in clouds.
No one moved for a long time.
Sergi stood and began dusting off his clothes.“What the hell was that?’he growled.
Serenity and Nicky were working to reconnect while Felix and Kosta were working to reconnect as well.
Sergi’s phone pinged again and as soon as he hit the button, Viktor’s voice came through, “Is everyone alright? That got too close for my comfort.”
“Da we are fine,” Sergi replied.“How much damage was done outside?”
“A couple of people were hurt but no one was mortally wounded. Most of the damage was done when Grisha took the drone out before it got too close to the hotel. Most of the damage is superficial. Those ublyudki were looking to drop that bomb on the roof.”Viktor growled.“As it was, it hit the corner and blew apart some of the stone work up high enough that it shouldn't bother too many rooms on the top floor.”
“Any sign of the groups on the street side?”Sergi wanted to know.
“Da, they are beginning to show.Hold on, there’s another trio of cars rolling up.”
“Motion them to the back door, we’ll meet them there,” Sergi grumbled. As he hung up the phone. He looked at Nikoli and his security men.“Da, we will meet them, just make sure you are all armed and ready for a battle.”
“It is what we do for a living, sir,” Viktor replied.
At his response, Sergi snickered. Then he headed toward a door to the side of the room.
Nikoli rushed toward it to get ahead of him and produced a key then flung the door open, revealing an arsenal that would stop any army coming for them.
