But she was about to learn just how far I was willing to go to keep her safe.

Starting with a new phone that no one—not even Bruce—could trace.

Chapter 15

Savannah

I cleaned myself up the best I could.

Mascara streaks still ghosted beneath my eyes, and my hair had more frizz than curl, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t.

Millie was going to have a field day with this, but there was only so much I could do when my world had just cracked wide open.

When she walked into my office a few minutes later, I barely had time to greet her before she blurted out, “Why do you look like shit?”

I forced a smile. “Still not feeling great.”

She squinted, clearly not buying it. “I’m never leaving you alone with Jax again if this is how you come out of it.”

I didn’t respond. Just grabbed my purse… and the new phone Jaxson insisted I take. I still wasn’t sure how he managed to get a brand-new phone into my office so fast, but when I saw Ben leaving, I didn’t question it. Honestly, I was relieved.

As we stepped outside, I waved the phone slightly. “No need to stop for a new one,” I said casually. “Jaxson had this sent. Said it could be a gift for helping him.”

Millie raised a brow but didn’t push.

“Got a new number, too,” I added, glancing down to send it over. Surprised to see that when I opened the contacts, her name was already there—along with two others.

Jaxson.

Ben.

I blinked, my steps faltering just slightly.

He’d already set it up. Ironically, with the only three people that needed my number.

Of course he did.But how did he know?

We left the office and headed to lunch. I just wanted to crawl in my bed and sleep, but I knew what weeks of that had already gotten me. For a moment, I thought maybe—just maybe—I’d feel some sense of normalcy again. Draw in some of Millie’s strength. The same strength only my mother could give.

But then I saw him.

Ben.

Leaning against the wall across the street like he had nothing better to do. Dressed down in jeans and a dark tee, arms crossed, face unreadable. Casual enough to blend in. Alert enough to pounce.

He wasn’t just security.

He was Jaxson’s head of security.

When I stopped talking, Millie followed my line of sight, then grinned. “Oh, that’s just Ben. He checks in on me sometimes—Jaxson’s orders, I think. He’s harmless.”

That made my stomach ease just a little.

If she believed Ben was there for her, then she truly didn’t know anything that was going on with me. Jaxson hadn’t said anything—at least not enough to raise any red flags.

And in this moment, that mattered more than anything. Trust.

Ben's eyes met mine across the street. Calm. Focused. Unshakable.
