“I’ll tell you some other time if we keep getting naked right now.”
“A barter I’ll accept.” Chance hummed as he revealed her bra. Fingers stroked reverently along the edge of the lace. “You’re so soft. So beautiful.”
“I like how you’re put together too,” she admitted. She was down to her underwear before she remembered something important. “Do you have a condom?”
He stilled. Swore.
She raised a hand to cover her mouth, partly to keep from cursing and partly because his expression was truly amusing.
Chance lifted her chin in his hand. “Change of plans, unless you have supplies tucked away in some wee cupboard.”
“There’s no cellophane in here that you’d enjoy being wrapped in.”
He kissed her. Devoured her, truthfully. Cupped her breasts and teased her nipples with his big, strong fingers. Driving pleasure over her as he stole her breath and dazzled her mind.
She wrapped her legs around his hips and pulled him forward, connecting the thin layer of her panties with the thick ridge tucked behind his boxers.
Chance groaned as his hips pulsed against her.
It was hot and dirty and something from a high school playbook as they rubbed together and teased and bit. She sank her fingers into the muscles of his back, arching and swaying to increase the pressure between them.
Excitement rose quickly, pleasure swelling up so quick and fast, Rose gasped with it. She clutched him tighter as the waves rolled.
Chance hissed sharply. He tightened the hand in her hair and pulled her head back, kissing her one final time.
They were both gasping for air a moment later, tangled in each other as she sat on the counter with him still between her legs.
“Rose?”
“Yeah?” It was a strange and yet comfortable sensation to be partly naked with him. To have just done something so intimate and now linger against each other. Rose had never felt such a physical connection, one that was so right.
He breathed out slowly, a rush of warm air caressing her cheek. “I’m sorry I messed up your plans for expansion.”
She laughed softly. “That’s really what’s on your mind right now?”
“Going for another round with a proper condom is the top item on my mind, along with a hundred other ideas, but I wanted you to know.”
“It was just a weird coincidence, and it wasn’t your fault. Will you forgive me for walking out in a snit after we had such a nice afternoon together?”
“Already forgotten,” he assured her. Only he was eyeing her with speculation as he helped her off the countertop. “Are you going to vanish if I go to the toilet to deal with the mess?”
She offered him a slightly guilty smile. “The door in the right corner. I promise I’ll still be here.”
By the time he got back, she’d used her shop sink to freshen up a little herself. Plus, she’d swept up the rest of the glass and searched in the cupboard for something she could loan him.
Chance whistled happily as he made his way across the floor to her side. “What’s this?” he asked when he accepted the pile of fabric she pressed against him.
“Not that I mind what you’re not wearing, but I keep it cool in here for the flowers’ sake. If you’re sticking around, you’ll need a shirt.”
He gave it a shake, frowning slightly at the dark blue fabric. “Why do you have men’s shirts waiting about?”
She slipped another one on herself and pivoted as if she were a model. “I pick them up at the thrift shop. They work better than an apron, and they wash and wear well.”
He shrugged it on, looking rather pleased at the fit. “You can dress me any time. Or undress me, for that matter,” he added with a wink.
They were terrible. Rose caught him by the hand and pulled him toward the couple of chairs she had for when she needed to put her feet up. “I’m truly sorry I walked away from you the other day. I had a wonderful time showing you Heart Falls, and I shouldn’t have—”
“I had a good time as well,” Chance interrupted. “Let’s focus on that part. And more.” He leaned forward in his chair, stroking his thumb over her knuckles. “You intrigue me, Rose Fields. You’ve invaded my dreams, and I can’t get enough of you physically. But it’s not just that I get hard every time I think about being with you. I also smile, and in some ways, that makes me want to shake my head. I shouldn’t be so fascinated, but I am.”
