He stood there, pinning her to the wall as they looked into each other’s eyes, and amusement danced between them. “You ready for this?” he asked.

When she nodded, the wildness returned. Cassidy held on, consumed with the fire he generated. Pumping into her, thrusting deep and hard, and each motion set off a new set of bells and whistles until her entire body was a firecracker ready to explode.

Beside her ear, his panting increased. The firmness of his muscles under her fingers felt like titanium.

Another torrent of pleasure unleashed itself, and Cassidy called out. His name? The hallelujah chorus? She was too busy enjoying the orgasm to know. Enjoying how his rhythm broke and Jace swore, stopping deep in her as her pulsing pleasure wrapped around him.

He stood there, supporting her, as the shower rained down on them. Breathing uneven, chests rocking, bodies pulsing with blood and energy.

Cassidy cupped his face in her hands then leaned in and kissed him. Still connected intimately, the slickness of his body and hers was an erotic contrast with the sweet press of their mouths.

Five minutes later—more?—she lowered her feet to the ground, and Jace soaped up his hands and washed her again. Gentle this time, the brush of his hands followed by kisses until she was ready to swoon from light-headedness.

He dried her off, brought her to his bed, then wrapped himself around her.

“We’re going to miss supper,” Cassidy warned.

“No. We’ll make it. But we have time for this.” He pressed a kiss to her temple. “Rest. Everything else can wait.”

She savoured the lingering sensations. Pleasure and satisfaction were much better than brooding alone.

Cassidy pressed her face to the crook of Jace’s neck and closed her eyes.

Sitting at the dinner table an hour and a half later, Jace knew he was being an ass to his cousin, but he really didn’t care.

Stephanie might not know yet what he and Cassidy had gotten up to that afternoon, but Blue absolutely did. And while he might’ve given Jace the nudge to make a move, it still had to be like pouring lemon on a paper cut considering the slow-and-no-go plan Blue was currently engaged in.

Smirking? Absolutely, Jace was smirking.

“More buns?” He held the basket in front of Cassidy. “You’ve got to keep your strength up.”

She glanced at him from under her lids, then rolled her eyes. But she took a bun before resuming her conversation with Stephanie. “You talked to Stacy this afternoon? How’s she doing?”

“She’s up to her eyeballs in packing, so she propped her phone up on the dresser in the kids’ room. I got to encourage Thing Two and Thing Three to get most of their extra clothes shoved into boxes.”

“Which meant you spent a lot of time singing the cleanup song,” Cassidy guessed.

Blue’s eyes lit up. “Oh. I like that song.”

“Me too,” Stephanie said enthusiastically.

She and Blue both took deep breaths—

“If the two of you start singing at the dinner table, I swear I will find something you don’t like to eat and serve it three times tomorrow,” Cassidy warned. “And every day for a week afterward.”

Blue waved a hand. “Idle threat. I like everything.”

Stephanie, though, developed a sudden interest in the ceiling. “Well, now. Maybe we should talk about what happens at the picnic.”

A frown on his face, Blue adjusted position until he made eye contact with Cassidy.

She grinned back, almost feral. “Steph has a few things on her hit list that I can pull out to cause good behaviour.”

“You’re so mean,” Stephanie complained before leaning forward, all teasing gone. “But I’m serious. The picnic?”

It wasn’t his favourite idea. Jace understood the ladies needed to figure out the pack and where Timberwolf Lodge would fit in. But with the balance of power still out of whack between him and Del, there were too many variables for him to be comfortable.
