It had been a good day. No, it had been a great day. She had noticed some of the pack members she’d met on Sunday hadn’t showed up. They must be the ones who supported Del as Alpha.
But everybody who had come up to Timberwolf Lodge that day had been positive and welcoming—after she’d dealt with Emma and her catty friend. How anybody could be mean to Sophie, Cassidy could not comprehend.
But that world faded away as Jace led her to the right, skimming the edge of the trees instead of delving deeper.
“You’re taking me in a big circle,” she accused.
“There’s a reason, and you’ll like it,” he promised.
Everything she owned was soaked. Overhead, the sky continued to put on a dazzling light show with rumbling sound effects. One particularly bright flash lit up the world as Jace pulled her to a stop beside a ladder.
Above their heads was a multilevel tree house. “Get out.”
He gestured to the ladder. “We used to have one here years ago. Blue and I spent the last couple of nights fixing it up. We wanted it in place before Stacy’s kids got here. Kids need a place of their own.”
Cassidy made sure she had a firm grip on the slick rungs as she made her way skyward. When her head poked through the trapdoor into the main section of the tree house, she whistled in admiration. “Damn. Now I want a tree house.”
Jace crowded after her, grinning as he lowered the trapdoor behind them and blocked out the wind. “Maybe if you’re a good auntie, they’ll let you borrow it sometimes.”
Another flash of lightning went off in the distance, the bright white light filling the window and lighting the interior. It was plain and simple, but there were a few shelves and a bunch of cushions. Cassidy could already imagine how much fun the boys would have playing in the space.
They sat on the floor. Jace curled himself around her and pressed a kiss to the side of her neck. “You were amazing today.”
All the shivers and sexy thoughts she’d had every time she’d spotted him that day came flooding back in. Cassidy separated his wet T-shirt from his body and peeled it over his head. The warmth of his torso against her fingertips was like a furnace. “I want you.”
He stole away her top and then pressed his palms to her cheeks, kissing her gently. Her lips, her jaw. The sweet spot under her ear. “You’ve got me.”
Peeling out of their wet clothes took extra long because they kept getting wrapped up in each other. Hands that were supposedly helping to disrobe paused to caress. To tease.
Outside, the storm raged, thunder rattling overhead. But inside, heat grew. Jace reverently caressed her breasts, pulling her close until he could taste and nibble on her nipples. He sat up and pulled her into his lap, and she curled her arms around his shoulders, arching against him.
Cassidy closed her eyes, and a wildness stirred inside her. The sensation of being in Jace’s arms was somehow meshed with images of wolves running. As he caressed her skin, she felt the wind sliding through her fur.
As he lay back and rolled her on top of him, she knew she was there in the treehouse with him. Hot and heavy and aching with need and lust. She rocked her hips, the thick length of his cock gliding under her sex. A temptation she was eager to enjoy.
Yet there was also the feel of rocks and earth under her paws. The bright tang of ozone from the storm in her nostrils. The low howl of a wolf calling to his mate.
She looked down and saw the deep blue of his eyes shimmering with silver. Saw his wolf. “You’re beautiful,” she whispered.
He pressed his fingers into the skin at her hips, rocking her over him. “I’m yours.”
She took him inside her, surrounding him in one smooth motion.
It was like being filled with the storm. Pleasure skyrocketed, and she reveled in the hedonistic sensations teasing her inside and out. Cassidy marvelled at the mental images of two wolves, pale white and speckled grey. Wolves loving, tangled around each other.
Him—and her. Impossible, magical.
Perfect.
Jace curled himself upward and wrapped his arms around her. With their bodies still intimately connected, his lips took hers with a hunger that was beyond human. Cassidy kissed him back. Holding on tight, she accepted the taking and gave as good as she got, and together they spiraled upward toward the moment of breaking.
He's mine.
The thought came even as pleasure ripped his name from her lips.
Jace buried his face in her neck and growled as his release took control. Pulsing, rippling. A full-body experience that tangled them together and left them panting in each other’s arms.
When Cassidy finally blinked her eyes open, it was to discover Jace grinning up at her. He brushed her hair back behind her ear. “Well, hello there.”
