Her body was warm and soft and within seconds he was ready for her again.

“Damn it, Red,” he gasped, trying to rein in his galloping libido, but she hooked one of those long legs around his and he was lost.

Before his next breath, his jeans were around his ankles and he was inside her.Burying his face in her hair while they raced up that mountain again, he lost himself in her scent, her softness, all that glorious hair.He was never going to get enough of her.Never.

It took another few minutes before he was ready to leave.

“May I pick you up tonight?”he asked as he opened the door.Maybe the cool air would help cool him down.

Her eyes twinkled.“Nope.I already have a date with your sister.”

“You’re going to do that to me again?”

“You snooze, you lose,” she teased.

“Okay, have it your way.But you’ll save me a dance?”

She chewed her lip.

“What?”

“I’ve promised Nash Johnson a dance.”

He frowned.“Why the hell would you do that?”

“You were angry with me at the time, remember?Came to Seattle, jumped to wild conclusions without talking to me.”

He cupped her face.“Everything has changed, now, surely you know that?I wanted to talk to you last night…”

“You don’t have anything to explain.I’ll see you tonight.”

Frustrated, he pulled her close and kissed her again. Her lips were soft and wet and still swollen from minutes before.Somewhere a car hooted. He lifted his head.Rose’s eyes were deep green pools of desire.“I hate to go like this, we need to talk but I need time to explain…”

“I’m here whenever you want me.Now go, otherwise I’m taking you back to bed.”

Before he could react, she pushed him out and closed the door.

“I’ll get you for that!”he shouted as he ran toward his truck.

He was so late. Her giggle, her scent, her softness followed him all the way back to the ranch.

Chapter Fifteen

By the timeRose was expecting Willow to pick her up for the dance, she was a wreck. She hadn’t heard from Cooper since he’d left her earlier.Okay, she knew he’d been working and was probably super busy, but still.

After what had happened early this morning, she’d thought he’d at least texted her, even a quick emoji would’ve been something.Did his silence mean he’d had time to think and wasn’t interested anymore?

He’d asked her to go with him to the dance tonight. So why hadn’t she agreed? It was what she wanted. They’d made love… Her breath hitched.Love.Closing her eyes, she clearly saw Cooper’s face. They way he’d looked at her while he touched her, while he moved inside her…

She was no psychic but that light she’d seen earlier the day in his eyes, had been there, in the depths of his blue eyes every time he’d looked at her.He felt something for her.Maybe not thelove-you-forever-kind of love she would’ve preferred, but something special.Because she loved him and wanted to spend as much time with him as she could before he changed his mind; she was happy to settle for that.

Pathetic much? The little voice snickered.Probably, but she’d followed her heart all the way to Marietta before she’d even known he existed. And then he had been the first person she’d met.Okay, it hadn’t been a very cordial meeting, but what she knew now was that in that instant their eyes had met had been the moment she’d lost her heart.

So why hadn’t see agreed to go with him tonight? Her thoughts jumped around, looking for an explanation.Images of Cooper mixed with images of that horrible night she’d been humiliated online.Sighing, she rubbed her forehead. She hadn’t accepted Cooper’s invitation because she was scared.Guarding her heart after the whole online fiasco, had become a habit.

The honk of a car brought her back to earth, and she quickly put on a jacket over the cream-colored dress and grabbed her bag.

Willow was waiting for her in the car.“You look gorgeous,” she said as Rose got into her vehicle.“And”—she angled her head—“you glow. What happened?”
