She groans. “I had no-holds-barred sex this morning. I thought getting laid before the game would be good, but he gave me a hard pounding. I’m a little out of sorts.”
I know the feeling. “Who was it with?”
She shrugs. “Some random dude I met on Tinder. I won’t be swiping right for a while.”
VANCE
“Oh my god, times have changed,” I jokingly whine to Layton with a genuine smile.
He walks toward me to take his seat nearby with a giant grin on his face, a tiny baby strapped to his chest, and his wife sitting next to him. “I’m introducing Ryan to sports early. It’s never too early to learn fundamentals.”
I chuckle. “She’s beautiful, man. Congratulations.”
He nods as he leans down and kisses her head. “Thanks. She’s the most beautiful girl in the world.”
Arizona clears her throat, and Layton corrects himself. “Excuse me, I meant that she’s tied with her mother for the most beautiful creature in existence.”
Arizona giggles and kisses his cheek. “That’s better, superstar.”
My eyes meet hers. “You look great. It’s hard to believe you had a baby a few weeks ago.”
She blows out a breath. “Thank you. I’m trying to get back into shape in time for our season. It’s no joke. Thank god I have Layton around to do the heavy lifting with Ryan. I don’t know what I would do without him.”
He rubs Ryan’s head tenderly. “I love spending time with my best girl, cheering on Mommy. She already told me that she wants to be like her mommy when she grows up, didn’t you, sweet angel?”
I inwardly laugh. Just a few years ago, Layton Lancaster would go home with a different woman nearly every night. And then Arizona Abbott entered his life, and he was a goner. From minute one, he was head over heels for her. They dealt with their share of hurdles, including his career-ending injury and the fact that Arizona is the sister of one of Layton’s best friends and teammates, but I’ve never seen him happier, and I’m happy for him. I suppose I can’t judge him for falling in love with his best friend’s sister. I’ve gone and done the exact same thing.
Next, I see Tanner helping Bailey down the aisle. Holy shit, she popped. She wasn’t showing at all during their secret wedding this past spring. She’s certainly showing now. Harper is merrily bopping along behind them, bustling with excitement as always.
Then Cheetah walks in holding Kamryn’s hand behind him. Layton smiles at her. “Why are you always last, Hart?”
“Because I’m the only one with a brain full of random shit, Lancaster,” Kam replies. “I’ve got one for you today. You’re going to sit here for the next ten minutes and fact-check me, but just know it’s a waste of time. I’m right. I always am.”
He rubs his hands together in excitement. “Give it to me.”
“2013 was the first year since 1987 to have four different numbers in it.”
Like she knew we would, we all sit there and run all theyears through our heads until we eventually confirm that she’s correct. As always.
Daylen then meanders in. I stare at him in shock. He’s wearing Kennedy’s jersey over a T-shirt.
He shrugs as he passes me and plops into the seat next to mine. “Don’t look at me like that. It was the only one they had in my size.”
The two of them have been acting weird since Vegas. I wonder if something happened between them.
Coach strolls in and sits on the other side of Daylen. He examines Daylen’s jersey, which matches his own. “Care to explain why you’re wearing my daughter’s jersey, Humblecut?”
“You’re wearing it too, Coach.”
“I’m her father.”
Daylen twists his lips. “I didn’t know it was hers. I bought it because it’s number eight. I’m eighty-eight, but no one on the Beavers has the same number. This was the next best thing. I’m a narcissist like that.”
Coach narrows his eyes at him. “You’re full of shit, Humblecut.”
Daylen shakes his head. “Coach, you need to relax. Maybe a little drinking and dancing would be beneficial for you. Do you want to come to a club with us after the game? Maybe you’ll pick up a hottie.”
Coach rolls his eyes. “A club? Do you know how old I am? I’m at an age where picking up a hottie at a club means picking up a rotisserie chicken at Costco.”
