Skeeter knew he was going to die, and the reality of it had set in.

“So the president and vice-president of the club agreed to let you go if you kept the warehouse stocked full of weapons?”

“And drugs,” he replied, and my head snapped to Skid.

“What drugs?” I asked.

“I supply five kilos of uncut cocaine every month to Smokey in exchange for twenty-five pounds of marijuana from your grow house.”

I cursed under my breath and raked my hands through my hair. They lied and betrayed us all. Skid cleared his throat, and I stepped away from Skeeter.

“What do we do now?” he asked, and I debated the answer.

I had a small camera attached to the collar of my shirt, recording audio and video of the entire encounter. It was a prototype from Callahan’s new security company, and I prayed it was capturing everything.

“I don’t see what else he can give us.”

Skid’s eyes dropped into slits, and he asked me one more time, “Anything else you need from him?”

Just as I went to speak, the sound of a hammer of a gun cocking echoed into the clearing, and I spun to find Sadie stepping out of the woods with a .38 pointed directly at Skeeter. I could see the pain in her eyes, and I wondered how long she had been listening to us. Did she hear what Skeeter said? Does she know her own mother betrayed her, and the club that swore to protect her sacrificed her for guns and drugs?

“I have a few questions,” she said, her tone deadly and her hand steady as she approached the last man alive who thought he could take from her without consequences.

Chapter 28

Sadie

My own mother.

I knew she was a piece of shit, but I never imagined she was so selfish to trade me for her drug debt. She allowed those men to violate me, to hurt me, to save her own ass. If that bitch weren’t already dead, I would kill her myself. How could Uncle Mick not tell me?

Dalton and Kade watched me as I approached the man tied to the tree. My hand was steady as I pointed the gun at his chest. I might not be the best shot in the world, but the fifteen feet separating us ensured I would hit him center mass if I pulled the trigger. The man’s eyes were wide, and snot dripped from his nose as I tilted my head, appraising how pathetic he was.

“Sadie, darlin’. What are you doing here?” Kade asked and took a step toward me with his hands raised.

“I was enjoying the peace of the lake when to my surprise, my brother and my old man marched a rapist by me.”
