Ezer didn’t know what to say to that. As the days passed, he was becoming… not fond of Ned, per se, but something very close to fond. He could no longer imagine doing the things he was doing with Ned with another alpha. He wasn’t even sure there was another alpha out there who would take the insults Ezer hurled at Ned, or would let Ezer lower himself onto their cock while declaring how much he hated him, and all without violence. Alphas were, in general, not known for being patient and understanding of mouthy omegas. There was a reason submissives like Pete were considered so desirable…

“You signed the contract, too,” Ezer said. “You agreed.”

“Like I’ve said several times before, I thought youknewwho you were contracting with, and I hoped…” Ned rubbed his hands through his hair. “I don’t want to talk about that anymore. It is what it is. You want me physically. I guess I have to be satisfied with that.”

“Idowant you,” Ezer said, surprised as his urgent desire to reassure Ned that he was a desirable alpha in Ezer’s eyes. “Physically, we match well.”

“And in every other way?”

“I think you’re growing, and maybe I’m growing too.” He touched his taut stomach. “And not just here, but in here, too—” he touched his chest. “And here.” He touched his temples.

Ned’s gaze trailed down to Ezer’s belly. “I swear, the babe is growing so fast. You look bigger than you did at lunch.”

Ezer nodded. His skin was starting to feel tight, and he recognized the mild withdrawal symptoms as his body processed the nutrients and compounds in Ned’s semen and now needed more. “When you go to school, what will I do with myself?”

Ned frowned. “I don’t like leaving you. I’d stay here if I could.”

“You really can’t?”

“No. I have to return to school. It’s the way things work. If I had a job, it’d be the same.”

Ezer frowned, thinking of his father and Pete. “Though, with our status, you’d work from home.”

Ned nodded. “But school doesn’t come to me.”

“It should.”

“Most people don’t do this so young,” Ned said.

“No. They don’t.”

The heaviness of what they’d done together hung between them. The responsibility of a child. The difficulty of doing something so outside of the cultural norm.

Ned asked, “What will I tell people at school? What do you want them to know about us?”

Ezer felt a hot burn of shame scour him on the inside. It was nauseating. “Tell them…tell them I went into heat unexpectedly and you helped me. Tell them that you’re a hero. You saved a desperate omega.”

Ned blinked at him. “Not the truth?”

“No, definitely not. I don’t want them to know you’re being paid to make me placid. I don’t want them to know how my father decided to break me.” Ezer shuddered.

Ned’s eyes grew sad. “Do you feel broken, Ezer?”

“Sometimes. Not always. But who knows? I’ve got the rest of my pregnancy ahead. And the birth. I hear birth alone can break a man.”

“You won’t break. You’ll always be fierce.”

Ezer snorted. He didn’t want to talk about that anymore. “Just tell them you’re a hero who helped me with an unexpected heat. That’s a prettier story. You come out looking good, and I look unfortunate, but lucky. It’s a good cover.”

“All right. I promise.”

Ned tugged Ezer down next to him, sniffing his skin, and kissing his neck. The softness of his lips was arousing, which was frustrating, and exciting. “When will Earl bring our dinner?”

“Soon.” Ned slipped his hand down, sliding his fingers around the slickness of Ezer’s rim. “We have time for another quick fuck.”

Ezer wanted to decline, to say he didn’t need it yet, but then Ned flipped him onto his stomach, and all he could think of was getting Ned’s thick dick inside him, rubbing all the right places, and leaving another wet spot on the blanket beneath him.

Afterward, panting and sweaty, Ezer muttered, “When do you go back?”
