We stay like that until we can’t anymore, and I hiss with disappointment as he moves back and out of my body.
“I know,” he agrees, bending to kiss me before pulling up his jeans and tucking himself away. Picking up his shirt, he pulls it over my head and down my body. Even as tall as I am, it still hits me mid-thigh.
Sam scoops me up, and I snuggle into him as he walks me to our flat. Pressing my lips to his throat, I sigh a happy sigh.
While I hadn’t wanted to have the conversation we’d had, I’m glad that we did. I’d known deep in my heart how much Sam loves me, but it had been good to clear the air. We’d be able to go forward now with nothing marring our happiness. No second-guessing or feeling like second best.
We’d both been broken in different ways, and we may have taken a roundabout route to get here, but now that we were, I knew it would be beautiful from here on out.
He may say I’m his forever, but he’s mine too.
CHAPTER 15
SAM
The conversation from this afternoon with Ally plays on my mind as I watch her laughing with Bren and Ellie. Not because I’m questioning my feelings for her. NO! I’m sure now that I’d never loved Bella, not really. I’d say I’d been infatuated and, like I told Ally, I loved the idea of her.
With Ally, there’s the all-consuming, possessive need to tie her to me in every way. To see her in my cut, wearing my ring, and eventually filled with my babies has me feeling a little feral, making me wonder if this was how Reaper felt about my mum.
That’s not to say that I don’t wonder what’s going on with Bella, because I do, as do most of the brotherhood and the Old Ladies. We’re all left wondering what the hell’s up with her.
“You okay, Sam?” Dad asks, leaning up against the bar next to me. He turns his head to look toward where I’m staring, and he smiles as we watch Ally take Lexi from Bren and cuddle her. I’m beginning to wonder if I can wait until I get a ring on her finger like I promised her dad.
“Fuck,” I mutter, rubbing at my mouth. Dad chuckles and Alec, who’d been standing next to me, snorts.
“You promised her family you’d wait until you were married,” Alec reminds me.
“No,” I shake my head, “that’s just what they decided I’d said. What I actually said was either my ring on her finger or my baby in her belly.”
Dad and Alec laugh out loud, and I grin. Either way, after tonight, Ally would be tied to me. My smile widens when she looks over at us as we laugh, and she blows me a kiss.
“Jesus,” Dad mutters, rubbing his chest. “You kids are all growing up. It makes me feel fucking old. I’m not even fifty yet, and I’m a grandpa,” he grumbles. He may grumble, but we can see he’s happy, and he’s the worst at spoiling Lexi.
There’s a ruckus at the door, and it swings open as the O’Sheas pile in along with Gunny and Bev. Ally gets up and hands Lexi back to Bren before she goes to greet her family. Turning, I place my beer on the counter and do the same. Walking up behind her, I wrap an arm around her waist and hold my hand out to shake Adam’s before kissing Tilly on the cheek.
“Thanks for coming,” I say as Ally steps away to hug the rest of her family.
Adam glares at me, but Tilly smiles and backhands his stomach. “Stop it,” she scolds. “You knew this was coming.”
“Maybe,” he grumbles, “it’s not a wedding, though.”
“No,” I agree, “that will come just like I said.”
“Dad, are you behaving?” Ally wraps her arms around his and looks up at him with a wide, sunny smile. His face softens as he looks at her.
“Course I am, sweet girl,” he tells her. Tilly bites her lip, trying not to laugh at his grumpiness. I get it, though; I’m sure I’ll feel the same if Ally and I have girls.
Reaper lets out his customary whistle for everyone to pay attention. Wrapping my arm around Ally’s shoulders, we turn toward him.
“Welcome to the Crows, O’Sheas. Grab a drink and find somewhere to sit. Ally and Sam, come up here.”
Taking Ally’s hand, we stand next to Dad and wait for everyone to get drinks and find a seat.
Once they’re all settled, Reaper turns towards me and Ally. Draco is standing next to him, holding a box that I know contains her cut.
“Thanks for coming, everyone. We’re welcoming another Old Lady into our fold tonight, and I’m fucking thrilled at Sam’s choice. She’s perfect for him in every way. It’s not the first time we’ve had an O’Shea join our family. We’ve always had close ties, and I’m beyond happy to see those ties strengthened by this couple.” He stops, and Adam’s gaze meets mine before it moves to Ally, who is listening raptly to every word Dad says. Although for this ceremony, I should really think of him as Reaper.
Reaper turns to Draco and opens the box he’s holding, taking out Ally’s cut as he hands it to me. “Sam, congratulations on taking an Old Lady and all the responsibilities that come with ensuring her happiness. Do you have anything you want to say to Ally?”
