“Yes.” Calliope fell silent and crossed her arms over
her chest. Like she was waiting for something. Some sort
of big reveal. Say…something about a blond reaper?
Roxy pressed her lips together and looked away, figuring her guilty conscience had her imagining things. A
part of her wanted to tell all. The other part was busy shoving that impulse, along with the memories, under a motheaten rug in the farthest corner of her thoughts. She’d
never told anyone about that night. She wasn’t about to
change that now. It was all about self-preservation.

After a long moment, Calliope said, “Good night,
Roxy. Sleep tight.” She sounded as cool and calm as
ever, and Roxy told herself that if she heard a whisper
of disappointment, of hurt, it was all in her very tired
imagination.
When she opened her eyes, Calliope was gone.
Yeah. Good-fucking-night. She was supposed to

Running wouldn’t do her a damned bit of good. If he
wanted her, he’d find her.
A comforting thought.
You want me for an enemy, little girl?
Not so much. But her choices had made him one
