She had her face turned toward the window, and her thumb and index finger tapped a melody against her thigh only she could hear.
What was she thinking?
What was she about to say before Angus called?
Those thoughts ran through my brain when I really should have focused on getting the Vegas deal back on track.
That was why, when I hung up, I didn’t start another conversation. At least, not with Natalie. I made a few calls that really weren’t as pressing as I made them out to be.
Because idle business chatter was far better than casual chitchat with my wife.
I didn’t want to screw my business partners every time they opened their mouths.

Natalie
“Wow.”
I spun in a slow circle in the middle of the presidential suite of the Serenidad Hotel.
“This place is… just wow.” Coming up with a better way to describe the room I was in was hard. Because all I kept thinking was…wow.
Over the years, I’d traveled a little with my father when he wanted to introduce me to potential business partners. But we rarely left the country, and we’d never stayed anywhere as beautiful as this.
It had a gold-and-white theme with a few pops of gray here and there. It was modern and tasteful and not at all tacky like you’d think with gold being the predominant color.
White single pendants hung low from the ceiling, and the floors were the same light wood finish as the walls. It was magnificent. But what really drew my attention was the glass door leading out onto a balcony.
It wasn’t overly big. Just enough space for two chairs and a table between them. But that didn’t matter when you could look out over the city. Curling my fingers around the wrought-iron banister, I leaned forward and smiled.
Maybe it was the small talk in the car on the drive over or maybe it was because I was so far away from the place that’d always felt like a prison. Whatever it was, I never wanted this feeling of freedom to go away.
In this space I honestly believed there wasn’t a thing I couldn’t accomplish. Not a dream I couldn’t reach for. It was incredible.
A ghost of a touch fluttered over the skin on the back of my arm. I turned in the direction of the touch and sucked in a deep breath. Zach stood not too far away from me, hands tucked inside the pockets of his charcoal slacks. His brows were pulled together, those dark eyes intently trained on me.
Gosh, I really wished he’d stop staring at me like that.
Especially after this morning.
Just thinking about it had my entire body going up in flames. Goodness, it shouldn’t have been like this. He was just supposed to be a helping hand, but now I wanted his hands tohelpme.
I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.
“We’re meeting Javier in the lobby at seven.” His words cut through my thoughts and not a moment too soon. “I’ll be back for you at around six thirty.”
“Okay,” was all I squeaked out. Luckily, it was enough.
Zach gave me a quick nod, then turned and left, leaving me alone with the weirdness going on inside my brain… and some other places.
Because I clearly needed it, I took a moment and gathered myself, then headed back into the suite. There were two rooms on opposite sides of the main area. Since Zach and I were the only ones here, there would be no need to pretend and absolutely no reason for us to share a bed.
Thank goodness… I think.
Walking from room to room, I noticed they were both the same, so I took the one to the right. Our luggage had been brought up earlier, and I quickly unpacked the few items Martina and Renata had packed while we were having breakfast.
Breakfast.
