Adrian, on the other hand, took over my mouth with his and if we weren’t careful, I was going to take him right there in front of Shi and Xavier and not give one damn. I wanted to claim him so badly. To mark him with my scent wasn’t enough. I needed to mark him with my teeth, my venom. Not only that, I wanted his blood inside me and mine inside him. My two natures wanted him to be mine in every way.
Shi cleared her throat and it was enough of an interruption for me to break the kiss before it led to other things. We did have shit to do. I looked at her and winked, then turned back to my baby… because that was who he was. “Go on, take a look at the offices.”
The smile he gave me made me feel like a billion dollars. I had put that smile on his face. Me. Oh, he was mine and I’d be damned if I let anyone threaten him, Salino or others. I heard more gasps and words of shock as he and Xavier checked out their new office. Finally, they both came back to us.
“Okay… you’re winning me over,” Xavier said. “This place is perfect.”
“And if you so choose, you will be living just four floors over it. Still living where you work, but in better conditions, wouldn’t you agree?” I asked.
He rolled his eyes, but nodded. “I appreciate this.”
I grinned. I wasn’t going to make him beg or anything like that. He was a proud man, but more importantly, he was Adrian’s friend. He watched his back on those missions. From what Adrian had told me, Xavier had saved his life more than once. So, this was the least I could do to show my gratitude.
“Here,” I said, handing both Adrian and Xavier the keycards. “As for furnishing the place, we’ll work on that. Only the best. You want to make an impression that you get the job done and are paid handsomely for your services. Which means the beat-up furniture from your old office won’t suffice.”
“You really know how to make people feel good about their lives, don’t you?” Xavier drawled.
“I don’t beat around the bush. And you’re a grown man, I’m sure you can handle the truth,” I replied.
“Thank you, Sage,” Adrian said, pushing the conversation away from where Xavier and I were taking it. He will probably be playing moderator between us until Xavier finally accepts my place in Adrian’s life. Oh well.
“All right, for now, you can use my home to get to work. I’ll go get those… remaining ingredients,” I said, referring to the griezel heart and werewolf ash.
“Be careful,” Adrian said, then kissed me again.
“I will.” I couldn’t help myself, I had to slap that beautiful, firm ass of his.
He gasped, but smiled, then pinched mine in response.
“Oh, before I go…” I whispered the combination code to my safe where I’d put the grimoire into Adrian’s ear. I knew Shi could hear me, but it didn’t matter. She already knew the code in case of emergency. Adrian needed to know it because he needed to be able to have access to it.
He looked at me and smiled. “Okay, gotcha, thank you for trusting me with that.”
“Of course,” I winked and nodded at Shi to follow me, I took the escalator to the first floor, then made my way to the garage. “You’re awfully silent,” I told her.
“Five hundred for that suite is awfully generous.”
“You’ve got a problem with that?” I asked as I climbed into the backseat as she held the door to my Bentley open.
She shrugged. “No. I think you won Adrian over with that, though. Xavier too.”
I smiled. “I want to give him everything.”
She laughed and rolled her eyes. “I would have never thought I’d see the day when you fell in love.” She closed the door before I could say anything and made her way to the driver’s side of the car. It gave me a few seconds to think about the words that had left her mouth.
Was I in love? Was this what it felt like? This swelling of my heart with just the mention of Adrian’s name or the sight of him? Shifters were passionate beings and could be pretty emotional, which was why it was such a triumph when we could control our emotions. But with Adrian, I didn’t want to hide my feelings. I wanted him to know exactly how I felt about him. So, yeah, I guess I was in love.
Shi climbed inside and started the car. “So, where are we going?”
“Nowhere yet, so kill the engine. I need to check something out first.” I reached into the hidden compartment in the seat before me and removed my laptop. It was untraceable as most of my laptops were that I did my illegitimate business on. My open businesses had regular firewalls and all that. But if say… the FBI wanted to hack them, they would see that everything was legal. These laptops were damn near impossible to hack. I also believed in keeping handwritten ledgers, because not every aspect of my business should be digital. People today put too much trust in technology. A paper and pen could never be hacked. I entered the deep web and did a search for body parts.
“What are you looking for?” Shi asked.
“The two items we need to save that girl,” I said.
“You think can save her?” she asked.
“Adrian does, and that’s good enough for me,” I said, not breaking my concentration on the screen as my eyes scanned the pages. I was able to find a local seller for the Wolf’s Scent and we made arrangements for the purchase. I contacted one of my Pride members to complete the deal and take it back to Adrian, so he’d be getting it in about an hour. It was going to cost a pretty penny, but nothing I couldn’t afford. As for the griezel heart, it was looking like my luck had run out.
