“Yilan… Oh God—”

“Don’t stop, Melek!”

I dropped my chin to bite down on her shoulder, growling, fighting the urge to throw her to the floor. But she only dug her nails into my back and urged me on, both of us climbing, tensing, peaking, until—

The creak of her bedroom door was the only warning. The frantic, masculine call of her name that wasn’t from my throat froze us both on the spot.

“Yilan?!Yilan!”

I shuddered, holding my breath, buried deep inside my mate as her eyes flew open and we both listened to her former betrothed run into her suite on the other side of this wall.

Just three or four feet to my left, the door lay open from her chamber.

Was he going to walk out here and find us like this?

I looked at Yilan and she looked at me.

“Yilan? Beautiful, are you here?” His voice was muffled—he’d gone to her bathing room and her dressing room. He was searching.

I bared my teeth and Yilan shook her head in denial as I shuddered, fighting a war not to remove myself from her and go throttle that poor, tortured bastard. But the drive within me wasundeniable. She was mine. She had to bemine.

Melek,she mouthed.Don’t.

I slid a hand up to her hair, scraping nails on her scalp as I grabbed a fistful and pulled her head back so her chin tipped up. She blinked, then her eyes widened. She shook her head as I slowly, slowly drew out of her, her jaw going slack when I drove back in, my arm braced behind the hollow of her back and pulled her down onto me.

Her mouth dropped open in a silent scream.

Inside her room, Turo was growing frantic. “Where the fuck are you?”

His footsteps clipped across the room, nearing the doorway out onto the balcony.

As he stepped into the doorway and leaned out, she wrapped her arms more tightly around me and everything went… oddly unfocused. Time seemed strangely malleable as Turo leaned out of the door and looked right at us… then in the other direction, frowning and muttering to himself.

He hadn’t seen us? I blinked.

She walked me in the shadows?!

My head snapped and I looked down at her in shock. Yilan’s eyes grew round. We couldn’t speak, couldn’t let him know we were there. But as he eased back into the room, still muttering under his breath, I gripped her hips and began drawing out of her again.

Her fingers clawed at my back, but she could say nothing or risk revealing our presence. The battle waged inside her, rippling in thebond—half of her protesting the loss of me, the other half pleading with me not to do anything stupid.

But Turo still hadn’t moved, and he muttered a curse.

“Has that fucker taken you somewhere?Shit!”

Finally, his footfalls drew away. I shuddered, and unleashed, tilting my hips and pressing so hard and fast into her that her lip trembled.

My body felt fully present, and yet strangely light, the union of our flesh in this shadow she created was eerie, as if the world around us had grown thin. Yet she was just as fully present in the flesh as she had always been. Her nails bit into my neck and she glared a warning at me, even if it was through hooded eyes.

But there was another male within arms reach who wanted her. One who wouldtakeher if she allowed it.

I didn’t stop.

I could hear that prick in her space, muttering, scrambling. I had no idea what he was doing, but he would not have her!

I took her, again and again, holding her head back, staring deep into her eyes, forcingher to see no one but me, to think of nothing but me. Her mouth fell open and her jaw trembled. She barely breathed. Her nails clawed into my scalp and my shoulder, savage enough to leave bloody score marks, and still I didn’t stop.

As her body began to pulse and tighten, I dropped my chin and breathed into her ear.
