She nodded, trusting the greatest villain in the world. “Alright, then. Spell me.”

Trevelyan felt a surge a pleasure at her faith in him. He waved a hand, manipulating the ball of magic andpoof. It blinked away, sealed onto Esmeralda’s beating heart.

Instantly, he felt relieved.

Taking over Wonderland was a worthy goal, but the spell was also an insurance policy. That was what hereallycared about. The Queen of Clubs couldn’t get the Heart tiara without beheading Esmeralda. That had been extremely concerning, because Trevelyan was an egomaniacal evildoer. He knewexactlywhat he would do in the Queen of Clubs’ place. He’d send another army to decapitate the witch. For a villain, it just made sense.

But now the Queen of Clubs was checkmated. She couldn’t get the spell if Esmeralda’s heart stopped, so loping off her newly-blonde head was a lousy idea. The tiara was useless without the spell… and the spell was useless without the tiara. It was lose/lose for the Queen of Clubs. The predicament would, at the very least, stay that bitch’s hand, if she came after Esmeralda, again.

Trevelyan loved plans that benefited him and fucked with his enemies.

Esmeralda looked down at her chest and then back up at him. “I don’t feel any different. Are you positive it worked?”

“It worked. You don’t feel it, because our magic blends together.”

She nodded, like that was perfectly normal. Itwasn’tnormal. He’d been serious the night before. It was impossible for high level powers to meld. Even the sparks of connection he felt with the witch’s magic were rule-breaking.

Fortunately, Trevelyan loved breaking rules and Esmeralda hated following them. It was no wonder nothing had been normal since they’d met. He accepted their connected magic as par for the course. He couldn’t explain it, but it didn’t worry him. In fact, he quite liked it. It made him feel closer to his mate. No one else could ever touch him as deeply as she did and vice versa. They were made for each other.

“The Queen of Clubs will have felt that spell being cast.” He theorized with cheerful unconcern. The woman held all the other tiaras. It was bound to reverberate through them. “It’s going to enrage her.” He smirked. “Such a pity.”

“Well, maybe we’ve pissed off a villainous kidnapper, who wants us dead. But, you didn’t end existence and it’s not raining.” Esmeralda winked at him. “So, things could be worse.”

Trevelyansoenjoyed her Badness. He crossed to her. “Let’s go have sex, again.” He suggested, his mind going to other, funner matters. ”We’ll pretend we’re in high school and I’m about to get you pregnant right before prom. Whichever one of us is leading the other astray, it will be incredibly scandalous.”

“Okay.” She agreed eagerly and then paused, like something had just occurred to her. Her forehead wrinkled in worry. “I’m having a really good time with you today.”

“We’ve been having a veryBadtime today, darling. Six very Bad times and counting.”

“No, I mean, I haven’t been thinking about Marrok enough.”

Trevelyan shuddered in disgust. “I should hope the hell you’renotthinking of the wolf when we’re in bed.”

“But he’s in trouble and I’m having fun with you.” She seemed pensive, like she still wanted to help that mangy moron. “I wish I had better magic.”

“There is no magic better than yours. Believe me. I would know.”

No one else in the world could comecloseto Esmeralda’s abilities. Once she learned to trust her powers, the woman would be unstoppable. Trevelyan was getting aroused just thinking about the chaos she’d create.

She didn’t seem convinced.

“Marrok will be fine.” Trevelyan persisted, wishing she’d just forget about that traitorous jackass. “The wolf is a survivor.” Given his personality, he had to be or he would have been picked off long ago. Trevelyan had no doubt that he’d figure something out. “I’mthe one in real danger, around here. If we don’t get back into bed soon, I might die.”

That dramatic lament earned him an exasperated snort. “I haven’t even finished my sandwich.”

Trevelyan quickly grabbed it with one hand and her with the other, eager to get moving. He pulled her into his arms, her back to his front and held up the sandwich. “Hurry.” He prompted and pressed against her lovely ass so she could feel the direness of the situation. “My life depends on it.”

“You’re insatiable.”

“You’re irresistible.”

“Crap. That line actually just worked on me. I’m embarrassed for both of us.” She casually took a bite out of the sandwich, as he continued to hold it.

Oh, helikedthat.

It was strange how much he liked it. Esmeralda might not “believe in him,” but she trusted him to perform spells on her and ate the food he’d prepared. Trevelyan wouldn’t have let an evil dragon perform mysterious spells on him or give him food. It was insane.

But he liked that Esmeralda let him do it, anyway.
