“I thought I was going to have to come find your ass. You told me you were on your way an hour ago.” I snickered, taking note of the frown on his handsome face.

“You should know better by now. If a woman tells you that she’s on her way, that means that she’s just now getting in the shower. I don’t usually spend the night away from home, so I had to make sure I had everything I needed. Sorry to keep you waiting.” My lips were pouted, and I batted my lashes for extra measure.

“If you keep batting those things, you’re gonna fly away. You can stop all that pouting. You are absolutely right, though. I’ve grown up with my sisters long enough to know that women can’t be on time for shit.” He kissed my lips a couple more times before pulling away.

“Where is your bag?” Soul questioned, walking toward my car.

“It’s in the back seat, babe.” I watched as he opened the door to retrieve my bag.

“Damn, what the hell did you pack in here, some bricks?” Soul fussed as he tossed the strap of the bag on his shoulder.

“I told you I had to make sure that I had everything I needed. I brought extra clothes, a swimsuit, my hair care products, my night clothes, and my makeup bag for the morning.” Soul eyed me curiously as he reached for my hand.

“What’s happening in the morning that you need makeup for?”

“Well, I like to look my best when I’m doing the walk of shame.” Soul and I both chuckled as we headed toward his front door.

“You’re crazy as hell if you think I’m letting you walk out of this mothafucka in the morning. You don’t have to work until tomorrow night, and I might not even let you go then.” I gulped, replaying the words in my head.

“Before we get in here, I do need to warn you that my dogs aren’t friendly. They aren’t going to hurt you because they know better, but don’t expect them to interact with you either. I rarelyhave people over here, but they don’t fuck with anyone.” The few times I’ve been over here, his dogs were somewhere being trained.

“Are these the killer dogs Murk was talking about?” I chortled, thinking about how afraid Murk sounded. The man had taken a life before, and he was afraid of some dogs. I’ve never been much of a pet person, but I wasn’t afraid of them either. The only animals that scared me were the wild ones.

“You’re laughing, but Rosco and Apollo have more bodies than most of the men on my team. They were trained to protect and kill.” My eyes ballooned as I glanced over at him.

“Wait. Are you serious?” I croaked in disbelief. I’ve never heard of something like that before. I mean, I’ve heard of dogs mauling people but never heard of trained killers.

“Hell yeah. I paid ten thousand dollars for these German dudes to train them. They know both German and English. My sons are smart as hell.”

“Wow. I don’t even know what to say.”

“Don’t be afraid. I told you they aren’t dangerous unless I need them to be. If anything, they’ll probably ignore you.” I shook my head as I entered the home. Soul was way more complex than I ever imagined.

“This place is so beautiful.” I slid my shoes off by the door like I’d done before. The first time I came, I noticed the cream colored carpet in the living room. It looked freshly cleaned and vacuumed. Almost as if he rarely used the space.

“You can have a seat in the living room. I’m gonna take your bag upstairs to my room.” When he released my hand, I felt the void immediately.Get a grip, girl,I coached myself as I settled onto the plush brown sectional. I observed the decorative pillows along with the accent pieces. Clearly, he hadn’t done this on his own, but everything was perfect.

The air conditioner must have been on high, because my arms and legs were covered in goose bumps. I tucked my feet underneath me as I rubbed my arms. The sound of Soul jogging down the stairs caught my attention. A smirk covered his face as he headed in my direction.

“You cold, baby?”

“Freezing. Why do you have it so cold in here? It feels like the inside of a freezer in here.”

“My bad. We like it a little cold in here. I’m gonna turn it down and grab you a blanket. Do you want something to drink?”

“Water is fine. Thank you, Soulie.” He glared at me while I giggled. Ever since I heard his niece call him that, I couldn’t get it out of my head.

“Keep playing with me, Juicy.”

“It’s cute,” I whined with my lip poked out.

“Ain’t shit cute about me, and you know that. If you’re gonna give me a nickname, call me something relatable. Like, Soul the Pussy Monster, or maybe the Cervix Killer. Hell, call me Grim like the niggas in the streets. Put some respect on my shit.” Soul stepped out of the living room, but I could still see him.

“Naw, I don’t like those. I’m gonna call you Soulie unless you piss me off, and then you’ll be Punk ass Chauncy.” I shrugged, accepting the blanket he grabbed from the hall closet.

“What the hell does that even mean?” He chuckled, leaning down to peck my lips. Things grew heated as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“Hmm.” I moaned into his mouth, accepting his tongue into mine. The weight of his body caused me to lie back on the couch. Our connection never broke as he spread my legs so he could lie between them. My dress rose over my hips as his hands roamed my body. There was something so addictive about his touch, and I could never get enough.
