"I want to help you."

"You've done enough," She said.

"I could at least keep you company."

"No thanks."

I let out a breath and sat down opposite her. "It wasn't a question," I said. "I want to get to know you, Lola. I can't take back my mistake, but maybe there's a way to fix this."

Lola looked up over the felt blanket.

Her bright blue eyes caught me off guard, taking my breath away. "You're beautiful," I said.

The human scoffed.

"I mean it."

"I don't care what you think," She said. "All I want to do is get back home." Her voice trembled; she was fighting off tears.

Humans were beings of physical contact. If I remembered correctly, they were much more physical than my people, which helped because they were soft and gentle where Terruxians were hard and scaly.

"Here," I said gently, opening my arms.

Lola looked at me as if I were crazy. She inched back against the wall.

"It's ok," I said. "I don't mind. If you need comforting. It's the least I can do."

Lola's eyes were wet. Her mouth twisted as she started to reply before her words were lost. She let out a choking sob. Then she collapsed into my arms.

CHAPTER EIGHT

- LOLA -

I WANTED to hate him for his mistake. It was his fault I was in this mess. He should have listened to me. He shouldn't have abducted me off the face of the Earth. I was in this prison because of Zeysor. And he had the audacity to show up to apologize!

I wasn't expecting an apology from a brute like him. He was massive, built like a literal brick wall, with an expression only a warrior could wear. He didn't look like the sort of guy, or alien, who would give a shit about apologizing.

He sat down across from me and opened his arms, looking hesitantly uncomfortable.

"I don't mind. If you need comforting. It's the least I can do," Zeysor said.

My face pinched up as my eyes threatened tears. My lips pressed together and my nose burned, trying to keep my emotions in check.

His hard exterior was nothing but a shell for a soft and caring interior. I didn't deserve to be in this mess, but maybe it would be worth forgiving him.

The look in his eyes made me fall into his arms. I needed touch; I craved the feeling of some powerful arms around me in this cold cell.

The alien pulled me close, wrapping me in the blanket and cradling me. He let me cry. He didn't try to sooth me to make himself feel less awkward. He let me cry until there weren't any tears left.

I was left feeling embarrassed. "Sorry about that," I said, wiping my cheeks. "I don't know what came over me."

"Tears are interesting," Zeysor said. "Terruxians don't cry. We come from a very hot and dry planet, so water is too precious to waste on our emotions." He wiped my cheek with his rough hand. "But you can cry all you need to."

"Thanks," I said, pulling the blanket around me.

I looked up at him, realizing how handsome his angular face was. He was pretty much as humanoid as aliens came. His body was built like a human bodybuilder but with thick, rock-like skin.

Was I crazy for thinking he was attractive? Maybe it was just my fear talking.
