I groan, burying my face in the covers. “I’m so confused. I like him, but he’s also Drew’s teammate and it’s Roman.”

“I know it’s Roman,” Jules laughs.

I look at her. “No, I mean, it’s Roman. The shy kid we grew up with, only now he’s a six foot four, tattooed hockey player who travels all over the world in the off season and reportedly has hook ups in each city the conference plays in.”

I’ve actually accidentally met one of his hook ups when I was still with Josh. They were playing against New Jersey and Roman and her got on the elevator at the same time Josh and I did. She was gorgeous.

Jules turns over, tucking her hand under her cheek. “That’s too bad. He’s so hot.”

“So hot! I dream about our kiss.”

We both sigh in dramatic longing. As much fun as I’m having getting to know him again, I do worry that I’m letting my guard down and Roman’s going to slip past it before I notice. I can’t go through the pain of another relationship that’s going to end because I’m not enough.

FIFTEEN

ROMAN

There’s a knock on my door as I’m stepping out of the shower. It’s game day and the team has to be at the arena in two hours. The guys say they’re not superstitious, but they have a ritual of gathering in Drew’s room for a shot of orange soda. Nobody knows why it’s orange soda or how the ritual started. I also don’t know why I’m being invited now, when I haven’t been throughout the season.

Given how much they like Lavinia, maybe all it took was winning against the Philadelphia Falcons.

With the towel wrapped around my waist, I walk to the door and open it, expecting to see one of the guys.

“Oh!” Lavinia takes a startled step back. Her green eyes move down my body in a subtle sweep that I can’t miss, and her cheeks color a faint pink. “I thought this was Kai’s room.”

Why is she knocking on Kai’s door? I lean forward, bracing a hand around the doorframe.

“Kai ‘had to’ be in the room on the other side of the hallway so we switched. But I’m here.”

Her eyes flick over me again, nose wrinkling slightly. She smiles at me sweetly.

“I think I prefer Kai.”

I’ll prefer her on my bed with my face buried between her thighs as she screamed my name. The need is so visceral I almost lean towards her. She tasted sweet and sugary the day I kissed her, and I’ve spent every day since wondering if she tastes like that all over.

“Go on a date with me.”

Lavinia stares at me for a moment, blinking in surprise. Then, she laughs.

“Your flirting skills really do need work,” she teases.

“You can teach me.”

Her mouth twists to the side as she pretends to think it over. “I don’t think so. I can think of ten other things I’d rather do.”

Based on the way her eyes linger on my abs, there’s more than a little chance of her agreeing to the date. I have to find the right thing to make her agree. I lick my lips and Lavinia inhales sharply, her eyes widening as she shifts slightly.

I smirk.

“Blossom,” I draw out her name. “Tell me honestly. How many times have you made yourself come thinking about our kiss and wishing it was my tongue on your clit?”

Lavinia inhales sharply, her face turning almost as red as her hair. She swallows roughly and I can almost see her pulse beating on the side of her neck. I want to lean in and suck on that spot, feel her pulse pounding against my tongue as I taste her skin.

“Maybe I forgot all about it.”

Her body is telling a different story.

“Oh, Blossom, lying is beneath you.”
