So, when I finally had the opportunity to cross over to her side of Blackwater, knowing exactly where she was, holding back was virtually impossible. She was right there, all sweet and sexy in silk, and one hundred percent accessible.

Losing control hadn’t happened to me since I’d pulled the trigger on my father.

Never.

I don’t like what this is doing to me. But India was in touching distance.

I could sense her lust and smell her freshly washed skin, and then we kissed—really kissed. It was hot and greedy, and I was so into it.

If Heaven above is a real place, this girl is the ruling queen. What a shame I’m buried miles beneath it.

The whole day, my father’s cruel voice had taunted me. His vicious teachings reminded me about weaknesses and how they’d become a killer's downfall. I was raised to murder, not obsess over a woman.

The proof was in the pain I’d hidden under layers of heartlessness.

As the years passed, I’d found it easier to block out Papá’s bullshit. Especially when unexpected circumstances changed my life forever and I was forced to adapt to a new way of living.

After Papá was gunned down, the weight of his oppression had lifted. Except I can’t seem to disconnect from his iron fist. No matter how hard I try.

The devil would forever live within me. And now India’s flirty presence has me playing in the darkness, rather than masking myself in it.

For her, I’m a fucking fiend. But this is an unrealistic situation. A fatal existence for a good girl who belongs under the care of my twin brother.

She could throw her arms around my neck and squeeze it until I’m all out of oxygen. Beg me to keep her coming all day long. Plead with me for a commitment. Unfortunately, I’ve already allocated the few heart beats I have left to someone else.

I follow her across the room, neither of us in a hurry to dress.

“So…” She teases a lock of hair with her fingertips. “I’d like you to listen to me before you say anything. Okay?” The croakiness of her voice is a telltale sign that I’ve just claimed her tight cunt only moments ago.

It’s one hell of a turn on.

“Ana wants me to stay over at her house this Friday night,” she tells me, daintily sitting on the couch next to the roaring fire. “And I want to go.”

She might carry herself with the regal countenance of a princess, but the woman is sin incarnate. I guess that makes us equals.

Amber flecks dance in the depths of her blue eyes and a blanket of goosebumps covers her all over. Swollen lips are bruised red, her chin showing a pink rash where my unshaved facial hair had brutalized the skin. Feathery eyelashes flutter against her eyelids as she studies me.

“They’ll stop asking me to do things with them if I keep declining… then I’ll have no friends. I’ll be a social outcast. It’s not like we’d do much, anyway. Probably watch an action movie and eat too much ice-cream.”

An ordinary, run-of-the-mill, boring guy wouldn’t think twice about letting her spend the night at someone else’s house. He wouldn’t bat an eyelid if she left for twenty-four hours, nor would he stay awake all night waiting for her to return. I’m not average and for this girl, I’m fucking extra.

I throw another log into the flames and consider cracking open a bottle of liquor to quiet the noise in my head. I’m not convinced she’d be safe in the Vargas household, even when I know every detail about the family.

My rules were set in stone the day India had arrived. There’s no room for negotiation.

“And what would you say when they start asking about your life?” My head cocks when biting flames engulf the wood. I’m usually fascinated by fire. But not tonight, not when her voice has me spellbound instead.

From the corner of my eye, I notice her gentle shrug and the elevation of her bare tits as she inhales. My pulse stutters. Christ––this woman has my dick on speed dial.

“I’ve already told them my brother owns a security company and he won’t let me talk about personal stuff.”

My brows hitch skeptically. “And they bought it?”

I glance in her direction. Her adorable scowl pinches my heart. “Sure, they did. It’s easy to lie when it's mostly truth. I’m used to keeping my personal life under wraps.”

Something stirs within me. She’s not new to this life. I know that. Only makes it harder for her to be a normal teenager. We’re similar in that respect.

Papá single-handedly ruined any chances I had of establishing friendships in school. My brothers are the closest thing I have to friends.
