MATHEUS

Dani sits in the middle of the deep tub and pulls her knees into her chest.

“I’m here. How can I help you?” she asks, her tone flat.

I don’t blame her. It’s not every day she gets a call from my big brother's fiancée. Neither of us knows what to expect.

“So, yeah, I just told Mat about India. She’s okay,” Carina explains. “Letterman took a bullet in his thigh. Well, it grazed the side of it, and he got a few stitches. Indy’s pushing him around in a wheelchair even though he can walk. Oh, and Mat…Dré’s still out of it. But he moved his fingers a few minutes ago. The doctor said it won’t be long until he’s back with us.”

“That’s good news. Thanks for the update,” Dani replies, her tone businesslike. “Glad to hear the mission was a success and everyone survived.”

She goes to stand, but I quickly bounce to my feet. I place my hand on her shoulder, shaking my head when she looks at me. I haven’t finished with her yet.

Instead of obeying, she continues to unfold, straightens, and pushes her wet tits out.

Jesus fuck, I keep falling deeper for this woman.

Water rolls down her chest and goosebumps burst all over her skin. Standing before me, still in the tub, she wades a little closer to me, almost bringing us nose to nose.

“One more thing, Dani,” Carina continues, unaware of the furnace in my belly. “I was thinking you could be part of the bridal party at my wedding…if you want.”

Dani’s eyebrows snap together.

“Me?”

“Yeah, you,” Carina confirms as I reach around Dani’s tattooed arm and grab a bar of soap from the dish.

“Obviously Mat will be a groomsman and it’s only fair that you have a part too.”

Dani stills, barely breathing, whereas I slip my soapy hands over her wet nipples and bite my bottom lip when she shivers.

“You know, since you protected me at the hospital,” Carina continues. “And Matheus is head over heels in love with you. I hope you don’t think it’s weird.”

I smile to myself, not saying a word and loving how she squirms from my touch and the fact the invitationisweird. However, it's a grand gesture too.

My family has welcomed a Blanco into their private circle—accepting she’s mine.

“Have you talked this over with Tomás?” Dani asks, her voice soft between us.

Carina laughs. “His exact words were, ‘Whatever makes you happy, Cari.’ I think that means he’s on board with it. Right, Mat?”

Dani shifts, her silver eyes settling on my grin.

“Sounds like my brother would do anything for you,” I answer, reaching for the gold shower head.

Turning the water back on, I rinse the soap off Dani’s chest, using my cut hand to glide all over her plump tits.

“It’s not just that.” Carina’s sigh is light as it travels through the connection. “We all know he’d never let someone he doesn’t trust be around me. Like it’s not even a discussion if there’s any doubt. Agreeing to it is a big deal for Tomás. Like huge, Dani.”

Bumping our chests together, I lift her from the water and plop her down on the vanity counter. I grab a towel from the rolled stack, shake it out and wrap it around her shoulders like a cape, kissing the tip of her nose.

“Perhaps he wants to make sure he has the best agent stuck to your side?” Dani suggests, her voice breathy and her eyes on mine like she’s talking to me.

Trusting my family won’t be easy for her. I know what she’s thinking, that Tomás has an ulterior motive.

“If that was the case, he’d have Gio as a bridesmaid,” Carina retorts. “Not that you aren’t elite. You’re very pretty and lethal, too. Indy has a girl crush on you, by the way. Don’t be surprised if she asks to train with you one of these days.”

Dani’s brows shoot up. “Um…I—I will have to think about the wedding thing. I mean, it’s nice of you to ask. I’ve just never been a bridesmaid before.”
