SteveandCalwent silent, looking atColewith gaping mouths and huge eyes.

"Itwas my idea after all.Puttogether as much of a business plan as you can, thenI’llhelp you polish it.Oncewe know what we’re looking at in terms of resources you’ll need, along with estimated revenue and user numbers, we can figure out if it’ll be viable.Ifthere’s potential there,I'llput up the money."

Aftera few seconds of stunned silence,SteveandCalwhooped in excitement, andIjoined them.

 CHAPTER16

 MALCOLM

 MAY

"You'vehad a busy couple of days."Lisa'stone was dry, her face expression-free.Todayher braids were tied back and she was wearing jeans with a silky blouse.Dressingdown looked good on her.

Ishook my head. "Trustme,Iwould've preferred less excitement.”Ishifted in my seat. "Doyou want me to go over what happened?"

Shetapped her pen on her notepad thoughtfully. "Let'sstart with why you’re here.Youmentioned something about trouble sleeping?"

Iblew out a breath and ran a hand over my head. "It'sfunny.Thenight before last, afterFelixandIhad sex, he stayed over.Ihaven't slept in the same bed with anyone since… this."Igestured at my leg. "Iexpected to be restless that night, butIslept great."Irubbed my hands up and down my thighs, then forced myself to be still. "Thebomb knocked me down andIbanged my hip, but otherwiseI'mfine."

"Physically, you mean."Lisaraised a scolding eyebrow.

Ishrugged and nodded. "Iwas pretty freaked out right after it happened.LastnightIwent to sleep okay, but around midnightIstarted dreaming."Istared intently at the cream-colored carpet. "Iwas backthere.Onlythose goons weren't holding me down.TheyhadFelix."Mybreath started coming faster, soIshut my eyes and concentrated on slowing my exhales.

"Focuson your breathing,Malcolm."Ifelt a flash of resentment and irritation.Surelyshe rememberedI'vebeen doing this dance for months now.

Along minute later,Iwas able to sit up.Irubbed my hands over my face.

"Youdon't have to tell me the rest of the dream unless you think you need to."

Imade a face. "Youcan guess the rest of it.Iwoke up before anything happened toFelix."Iglanced up atLisa, then back down to the carpet. "Iwas afraid to go back to sleep after that, though."

Thescratch ofLisa'spen as she made notes was familiar and comforting.

"Didyou put any thought into answering my homework questions?"

Shemet my incredulous stare with a blandly inquiring eyebrow.Herdark eyes were calm.

 "I'vebeen a little busy."

Asecond eyebrow lifted to join the first. "Youhad several hours after you woke up last night."

Icrossed my arms, absolutely aware how defensive my posture was, but unable to stop myself. "Ihad other things on my mind."

"I'dlike to hear about those other things."

Haveyou ever wished laser eyes were real?

"Fine.Ihad a glass of very expensive whiskey and wallowed in the memory of this."Islapped the palm of my hand on my right leg. "ThenIswitched to an even more expensive scotch and relived every moment of thatMancusoasshole holding me andCraighostage."

Lisanodded. "Okay.Whenyou were thinking about those events, how didFelixfactor in your thoughts?"

Iregretted that my arms were already crossed, becauseIreally wanted to cross them again.
