My body is on fire and my dick is so hard it’s impossible to be in this apartment without having thoughts about sex all day. But instead of going to my laptop, I go to my room and throw myself onto my mattress.

I’m exhausted and as horny as I may be I have no desire to do anything tonight. The club was swarming with people today and I have to find someone new soon because I don’t want to bother them when they have their own jobs to take care of.

Tugging off my green Converse, I slip under the sheets, turn the night lamp on, and close my eyes.

I haven’t taken a vacation or a week off in five years. I worked hard to make our club a successful place and gave it everything I’ve got because it’s our baby. But I desperately need some time off.

Maybe I want them to come with me wherever I’m going, I have no idea where, but we’ll figure it out once I find an employee.

“Ronnie…”

I snap my eyes open as soon as I hear Amber’s soft voice drifting from the crack I left open. Pushing to a sitting position, I clear my throat, “Hey, is everything okay?”

Sniffling softly, her voice breaks, “Not really.”

“Come here,” I lift the blanket, feeling her body sliding next to me. I tuck it around her and pull her closer for an embrace. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“Not now, I just want to forget this day and fall asleep.” Her tiny body is shaking—her hands and feet are freezing. I tuck her feet between my legs and wrap my hand around hers.

“Okay.” I bury my nose in her fluffy hair and watch her until her eyes clench shut. “Sweat dreams, Bear.”

Our soft breathing blends and my lids slowly close, the next time I open them soft lights filter in from my window.

Amber’s eyes are on me, softly gazing, appreciating, and tracing my face. “Thank you for including me in your fantasy.” The golden marks akin to the ones of the ocean circling her irises, shine brighter.

“What are you talking about?” My voice is thick with sleep, good sleep, as I rub the light stubble on my jaw.

“Even if it’s a silly fantasy, I felt seen and I haven’t felt that most of my adult life.”

Moving my hand to her face, I tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and brush the pad of my thumb over her defined jaw, cheek, and lips. “It’s not silly and you don’t need to thank me. It’s a way to express ourselves when the world suffocates us. It was time to call the chapters by numbers because we were already writing in each other’s chapters, at least Bradley and I. That nosy fucker was in my business from day one.” A huge smile spreads on my face.

She laughs and giggles. “He is…”

“But I also felt it could help all of us if we did it that way. We don’t just write about sex, we write about our feelings and the things we’re going through. That deserves to be acknowledged.Wedeserve to be seen.”

Her eyes fall to my chest where her palm rests, feeling my heart pounding.

“We read what you wrote the first day you stayed here and I want you to know that under this roof, we care for each other. It doesn’t matter what type of relationship we have.”

She slowly nods. “Can we steal another hour and stay in bed?”

My grin widens, “I’m counting on it. Can you tell me why you cried?” I already know the answer is no and I wonder why.

“Not today.”

As I enter the elevator with the sweets and desserts I got us for movie night, Piper trails behind me, silent as she leans against the panel, gnawing on her bottom lip.

“You’re in a mood, what is up with you?”

“Nothing.” She digs her hands into the pocket of her hoodie.

“C’mon, you can tell me.”

She stays quiet, peering up at me in annoyance.

“Are you going to make me guess?” My eyes narrow. “A boy?”
