“Lainey called. She’s in trouble.”
My fingers gripped the steering wheel, my mind instantly redirected to whatever bad thing happened to our sister. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to stop and turn around or floor it.
“Where?” I asked first.
“The Camden ranch.”
My heart skipped a fucking beat when he said that. “Katie’s place?”
“Yeah,” he confirmed. “Someone chucked a rock through the front window. Lainey called me freaked out.”
I clenched the wheel in a death grip.
“What the fuck? Is she hurt?”
I was going in the right direction, so I put my foot down on the accelerator. Except, fuck! I couldn’t go too fast towing the trailer.
“No. She’s fine.” Thank fuck. My kitten wasn’t hurt. Still, I had to see for myself. Find out what the fuck was going on.
“What about Lainey?” I asked.
There was a pause. “Wait. Who are you talking about?”
“Katie Camden.”
Another pause. “She’s fine, too, but no one smashes a window of someone they like.”
Which meant someone hated my girl. My jaw clenched. Kitten might be fine, but she was in danger. And I wasn’t there to protect her.
“I can be there in ten.”
Maybe eight.

KATIE
I wason the front porch with Colt and Lainey when Bray came tearing down my drive. His truck skidded to a stop, kicking up a big cloud of dust.
He jumped out. As he approached, his eyes were on me. Not the broken window or his siblings. Me.
I swallowed and could feel my nipples tightening. Butterflies swirled in my stomach.
His gaze raked over my body, then held mine. I saw the intensity, the heat. The fury.
“You okay, kitten?” he asked after he hopped the three steps and onto my porch.
He stood close. So close that I had to tip my headback to meet his blue eyes. His rough-worn hand cupped my jaw.
I breathed in his familiar scent. Soap and something beneath that was exclusively Bray.
I nodded.
With him here and this close, I instantly felt better.
Safe.
The adrenaline from what happened made me shake. It was as if I knew things would be okay now that Bray showed up.
