“That was the best homecoming I’ve ever had.” I sighed, enjoying the warm, rubbery state of my muscles.

He gave me a more serious look. “I don’t think we should take overnight assignments right now.”

“We have to take whatever Darcy or Tork give us.”

He shrugged. “Maybe we should be honest with Darcy.”

“What?” I sat up and looked at him like he was nuts. “No way.”

“It would be good to have someone in our corner.”

I scowled. “No way. I’m not telling my boss I’m pregnant. It’s not happening, so drop it.”

He held up his hands. “Fine. It was just a thought.”

I grabbed some tissues and cleaned off, then rolled onto my side and faced him. “We don’t need anyone else knowing. When the time is right, we’ll go to the mountains and either come back as a couple or not. But how the baby arrived in this world is nobody’s business but ours.”

His expression softened. “But you may want to be a couple?”

Gazing into his heated green eyes, my heart tightened. “More and more I feel like maybe I do.”

He pulled me into his arms, and I nestled against his warm skin. He kissed my hair. “I hope so, Blade. I really hope so.”

Darcy pinned me with his serious gaze. “I know Tork is who you would usually deal with, but he’s off today with the flu.”

“It’s fine. You’re both my superiors now.”

He looked pleased. “I appreciate your mature attitude.”

I shrugged. “No problem.”

He leaned forward. “I need some help with a delicate matter.”

“Sure.”

“I know you and Blade have become buddies.” He cleared his throat. “So maybe you can tell him that fraternizing with his client isn’t cool.”

I frowned. “I’m sorry?”

“I can read him the riot act if you want. But I thought since you’re his friend, it would be better coming from you.”

“What would be better coming from me?”

He rolled his eyes. “I just told you—that he shouldn’t ever get involved personally with a client.”

“He did that?”

“I thought you knew.” Darcy sighed and pushed a newspaper toward me. “He got involved with that Riley West guy.”

I was completely confused. “What?”

He snorted. “It’s all over the papers that Blade and Riley had a fling. The headline is something about a hero bodyguard in love tryst with superstar.”

The blood drained from my face. “No.” I shook my head. “That can’t be true.”
