“Okay.” His smile returned.
I cleared my throat. “Tonight, I’m gonna tell Ralph I don’t need any extra shifts anymore.”
His face tensed. “Really?”
“Yeah. We’ve got some very important Christmas movies to watch. How are we going to do that if I’m never home?”
Grinning, he said, “That’s right. And those gingerbread cookies aren’t going to eat themselves.”
I rubbed my tummy. “God, I hope not. I’m starving.”
He glanced at his watch. “You have a few hours till work. Shall we sit in front of the fire and eat cookies?”
I bugged my eyes. “Yes, please.”
“Milk?”
“Gotta have milk with cookies.”
“You’ve got it.” He stood and ruffled my hair. “I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere.”
“Nope. I’m right where I want to be.”
Chapter Twelve
Graham
“Keep your eyes closed.” I watched Sam closely, in case he tried to peek.
“I am. If I walk into a wall, I’m going to blame you.”
I laughed. “I won’t let that happen.” I opened the door to the guest room, and said, “Okay. You can open your eyes now. Merry Christmas!”
He opened his eyes, and his mouth fell open. “You made a crib?”
I nodded, feeling proud. “Yep. And I also made the changing table and dresser too.”
His eyes were wide. “You even painted the room?” His voice went up an octave, and he covered his cheeks. “I love the color. It’s so cheery.”
“I picked yellow because we don’t know the sex of the baby.”
“Right.” He nodded and moved into the room. He ran his fingers along the smooth, white top-rail of the crib. “My god, this is beautiful. I can’t believe how gorgeous this is.”
“It was fun making something for us.” I smiled and put my arm around him. “I’ve never really made anything for someone I loved before.”
He frowned. “Seriously?”
“I’ve always sold everything.”
“Well, I’m impressed.” He kissed me, his lips soft against mine. When he pulled back, he looked emotional. “This is the best present ever.”
I smiled, my heart bursting with happiness. “I’m so glad. I wasn’t sure if you’d like a white crib or not.”
“I love it.”
“I’m so relieved.”
“Your present is under the tree.” He sounded breathless.
