The solar eclipse omega pregnancy was only a three-month cycle. Nothing much happened the first two months, but during the third month I’d get huge. I worried a bit that my big stomach would turn him off, but there was nothing I could do about that.
Today was my two-month checkup, and Dr. Peters had promised us an ultrasound. Lex seemed excited as he dressed, and he kept kissing me and watching me.
“The ultrasound won’t hurt, right?” he asked, running his fingers through his hair.
“No. Not at all. They just put gel on my stomach and move the paddle around.” I laughed. “At most, it tickles.”
“Okay. Good.” He frowned. “What’s the test with a needle?”
Surprised he knew about that test, I said, “The amniocentesis?”
“That’s it.” He hesitated. “Do you have to have that?”
“No. Only human have that.”
“I see.”
I smiled. “Where did you hear about that test?”
“I’ve been reading up. Gabriele and I have been researching on the web.”
“Seriously?”
“Yep. We have nothing else to do. Charles still won’t let us work in the compound.” He scowled. “When will he relax?”
“I don’t think he ever relaxes.”
“Gabriele approached him about us running a restaurant, but he said no.”
“You would want to do that?”
“Just for lunchtime meals maybe?” He sighed. “I need something to do. I’m going stir-crazy. It’s fine when you’re home, but you go off to work, and I feel weird being home alone.”
“When the baby comes, there will be plenty to do.”
That didn’t seem to help; if anything, his face got even more tense. “I don’t know anything about babies. I don’t want to be left alone with the kid. I might accidentally kill it.”
“No.” I laughed. “Besides, I’ll be home for three months after the baby is born.”
He brightened. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
He seemed visibly relieved. “Oh, thank God.”
“Did you think I’d just toddle off to work after popping out a baby and leave you in charge?”
“What the hell do I know about this stuff?” He raised his brows.
“I wouldn’t do that to you. Alphas aren’t the ones who usually stay home with the babies.”
“Exactly. But because Charles is being such a dick, our roles are reversed right now. I don’t like it. I want to work.”
“Gabriele can’t convince Charles to change his mind?”
He chuffed. “They barely speak. Charles tries never to be home.”
“Poor Gabriele. He must be lonely.”
