Chapter 19

Dia

Reed walks away andI have to fight the urge to follow him with my feet and my eyes. In my dreams, I pictured our reunion in a million different ways. Never once was it like this. When we were kids, he’d always say I was his savior. Now, when it counts the most, he’s mine. That thought drives my feet forward. I already miss his touch. I’ve missed it for so long now that I don’t know if I can survive losing it again. The women behind me are hesitant. After the hell they’ve been through, it’ll be a long time before they will trust anyone, but I have complete faith in him. I offer them as much reassurance as I can.

“Hurry.” A woman wearing a similar leather vest with the words Poison and Cleaner on it gives the women behind me the encouragement they need. Poison’s voice is authoritative yet gentle at the same time. I motion for the others to follow, and they do.Their hesitation clear in their tiny steps. I don’t blame them. The looks of the men wearing leather and waiving guns are just as frightening as the guys who brought us here.

Some men with Reed I recognize from the other night, but the others I haven’t seen before. They’re wearing similar vests, but with a different name on them.Savage Saints. Michigan. They’re a long way from home but If Reed trusts them, that’s good enough for me.

A gun fires in the distance and we cover our heads with our arms and pick up the pace. A shiver moves down my spine. My eyes dart around, unsure where to go and hoping for a quick glance at Reed to give me the reassurance I need that he’s safe. I’ve waited too long for him to return to me. I can’t lose him already.

“This way.” A booming voice pulls us forwardinto the warehouse. Closer to freedom, but further from Reed.

We follow his order until we reach a third man, who I recognize. Fuel. He wears the same patches as Reed and was with him at last night’s gala. I pause in front of him and glance back one more time. His heavy hand brushes my shoulder, snapping my focus back to him. “Tank is fine, but you need to get in the van. Now.”

I want to believe his certainty, but I’m still uneasy. All I can do is nod. I move toward a black cargo van waiting with the rear doors propped open. One by one, Celina, Andrea and Maddie pile into the van with the help of another man, also wearing a Krymson Destroyer’s vest. Only his patch says prospect. When everyone else is safely inside, the prospect helps me up and closes the door behind me. Once again, we’re in an unfamiliar place. Small runner lights along the floorboard our only light. The air is heavy with a mix of emotions. Fear, hope and uncertainty. Maddie continues to cry, sobbing into the sleeve of her shirt as Andrea holds her. Celina leans her head back against the metal sides and lets out a heavy sigh. I close my eyes and allow myself a moment to compose myself. The knot in my stomach won’t subside. All I can think about is where Reed is. I haven’t seen him since he headed upstairs.

The engine vibrates the van when it turns over, and I jerk backwards when it speeds off. I know they are helping us. That I’m sure of, but all I want right now is Reed’s arms around me. He said he still wanted me. The way he kisses me makes me believe it, but will we really get a second chance or will circumstances beyond our control going to stomp on my heart again?

The van jerks to a stop and the rear doors fly open, flooding the back with bright headlights.

“You ride with me.” I blink against the blinding lights. It’s not the boy I knew as Reed speaking to me in a tone that’s setting my pussy on fire, it’s the man they call Tank. My heart shudders in my chest. I don’t normally like being spoken to like that, but the gravel of his voice and the need in his command pulses through my body.

I inch toward him as fast as I can in the cramped space. When I’m close to the edge, his large hands wrap around my waist. He lifts me into his arms and pulls me out of the van and against him. My body slides down the front of his as he lowers me to my feet. His frame is solid and his taut muscles bulge under the leather he wears. Even his cock is hard behind the zipper of his jeans. I can feel it pressing against me. “It took you long enough to come back for me.”

“I know Angel, but I promise I’ll move heaven and earth to make up for the hurt I caused you.”

“Where’s...” Reed smothers the rest of my words in a devastating kiss. I melt into him, his lips tasting like home. Every time I pull back for air, he dives in for more, digging his hands through my hair and pressing us so close I’m not sure where he ends, and I begin. Absorbing every ounce of his need. Matching the frantic rhythm of his tongue. Desperate to hold on to him a little longer when he pulls back. My head is spinning and my knees buckle. I’ve always loved Reed, but the longing I have now is something different and it’s for the sexy as sin man standing in front of me. He’s changed in so many ways, but my reaction to him hasn’t. He still leaves me breathless.

“We need to go. Now.” Reed takes my hand in his. Part of me wants to follow, but another part, the part that feels the need to protect the others, has me pulling back.

I’ve always worn my emotions on my face and now isn’t any different. My eyes frantically scan the faces behind Reed. “Where is she?”

“I didn’t find her, but we’ll keep looking, I promise. We have to go.”

“I can’t leave them.” My arms drop to my side with a heavy thud. The weight of everything hitting me all at once. The guilt that I’m free but the girl Ben took to punish me isn’t.

“We’ll be right behind them.” Reed slams the van door closed and grips my trembling hand. All I can do is follow him. He straddles his bike and I slide on the back like I’ve done a thousand times before. The pipes rumble when he fires it up and I shift closer, wrapping my arms around his waist. The warmth of his body and the nostalgic scent of his cheap cologne feel like home.
