Chapter Fifteen

Izzy

I hit the hard ground, the force knocking the wind from my body.

That’s when he hovers over me. His smile is menacing and it scares me that he seems like he is about to enjoy this. His hand pulls back and before I can scream his fist plows into my face. My cheek explodes in pain as my head whips to the side and smashes into the dirt. As much as I want to hold it in I can’t, and sobs start to come out of my mouth.

“What’s wrong, baby? Pretty sure that you like it rough.” His voice taunts me right before his boot connects with my rib.

The pain radiates through my whole body. “Should we take her for a spin first?” Another voice growls from behind me. His hand runs over my ass before smacking it hard. More tears fall from my eyes.

No.

Please.

“Nah, let’s just finish the job,” the one in front of me says.

His fist hits my face again and the darkness sets in.

Hands grasp me and I scream.

“Izzy!” My eyes spring open. Nikki is standing in front of me. Her face is marred with worry as she looks down at me.

I look around frantically before realizing that I’m in my room.

Safe.

“Jesus, you scared the shit out of me. I could hear you next door. What happened?” She sits down next to me, her hand rubbing my arm.

“I-I had a nightmare. Sorry I woke you up.” I close my eyes, trying to calm down.

“What was it about?”

Can I tell her? Should I?

I saw his face. I know what he looks like. At least one of them. For some reason, something inside of me is screaming to keep my mouth shut.

“Just a bunch of images. Nothing really made sense. I guess it freaked me out.”

She studies me, and I don’t think she believes me. “You’re lucky your brother had an early appointment ‘cause there is no way he’d buy that bullshit.”

I feel like crap lying to her.

“You need anything?” she asks, standing up.

“No. Thank you.”

Nikki nods at me before walking away.

I close my eyes and see his face again. The smile he had while he was hurting me. A chill passes through me.

The clock beside me says it’s a little before nine, so I decide to get up and start getting ready. I jump in the shower, needing to wash the nightmare off of me. I feel like my memory is slowly returning. I’ve been getting little things back, like the other day I asked the girls to grab some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream for me because it was my favorite. Tracie stared at me for a second before I realized what I did. That I had never said that before. Sure it’s something small, but anything at this point is better than the nothing I was left with.

Getting dressed for the day, I think back to last night. It felt so good to be with Max. Almost on cue my phone buzzes.

Max: My sister is graduating today. Feel like keeping me company?

He’s asking me to come with him? In the back of my mind, I was wondering if he would revert back to his old ways. If I would have to beg him just to be around me.
