My door opens and I turn to see Lucy. “Told you it would work. How was it?”
“It was…” I think back to watching him hover over me. “Amazing.” Then I think about him freaking out because he forgot to use something. “Can I ask you something?”
“Anything, chica, what’s up?”
“How do I get birth control? Should I find a doctor?”
“Oh God, no. That’s the last thing your brother needs to hear you’re doing. Doc is stopping by later to give me my shot. I’ll tell him you need one too. If I tell him to keep it to himself, he will. We have gotten close over the years.”
“And the shot is good?”
She nods.
“Okay, thanks.” I hesitate asking her about what I need to take for now.
“What else?”
She’s good. “I need a pill. We didn’t use anything.”
Her face drops. “I’m gonna give that idiot hell. Don’t worry. I’ll let Doc know you need something for now, babe.”
I give her a hug. She is surprised at first before she returns it.
“Thanks for being so great to me.”
“Of course. We’re family, girl.”
Family.
It feels so good to hear that.
