“I-I just mean for, uh,” Austin said stammering over his words. He looked at Jameson and all the man did was shake his head at his talking partner. “So, we have no plans of that. Moving on. If you intend to leave the house, please give at least one of us advanced warning. Depending on where and what it is, one of us will be with you, if not both of us. If it’s something big like a dinner in a public restaurant, we may call in a few more people. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Advanced notice is a must.”

“Okay, fine,” I said with a roll of my eyes. “Here’s a secret, I don’t go out much. You probably won’t even need to worry about that. But I promise the moment I get the urge to thrust myself into public, I’ll let you know.”

“Thank you. Also, please don’t go outside of the house without telling one of us. Even if it’s just to step out on the back deck to get some air. Whoever is on duty is fine. Jameson is on days and I’ll be taking over at night. Jen is going to program our numbers in your phone if he hasn’t already done that.”

“He might have, he has my phone more than I do, I think.”

Austin laughed but it sounded a bit nervous.

“We don’t want to get in your way. If we are bothering you, just say something. As long as you’re inside the house there shouldn’t be a problem for us to move to a different room.”

“I’m sure it will be fine,” I said but it came out with a bit of a bite to it. I really hadn’t meant for it to. It was a tiny bit hard since I had no privacy, and what little I could grab hold of would be here in my own home. That was being taken away and though I didn’t lead the most exciting life, I still felt the grip of it tightly. “I guess I should let you know that I like to go for a jog early in the morning. Usually, first thing. So, not sure which one of you would like to go along, but I’d really like to get back to it tomorrow.”

There was a look exchanged and then Austin nodded.

“One of us will be ready,” he replied.

“Thanks,” I said with only a hint of sulking in my tone. I was grateful, but I also felt like I was a hassle, when I shouldn’t have because they were here for me. “Anything else?”

I jumped up, grabbed the last sausage link from my plate, and shoved it into my mouth. My eyes went from Austin to Jameson as I waited for a reply.

Jameson shook his head and I was pretty sure I saw his body rise and fall with a sigh.

As I walked away, I couldn’t help my thoughts from staying on the man.

What the hell was his deal?

I wondered if he couldn’t talk. Or just chose not to for whatever reason. And if he chose not to, then what had led him to keep his silence? I was sure had heard him make a few noises before. That night I’d first seen him I was positive I’d heard something come out of him. He grunted and there might have been something that resembled a growl. But that didn’t mean he could talk, did it?

I shouldnothave been thinking about him. I shouldn’t have been wondering anything about him. But if I was being honest with myself, Jameson had been stuck in my head for a long time.

Once he had been a stranger that caught my attention and pulled me in like I’d never felt before.

And now, he was here. He was within reach yet I still couldn’t touch him. Even if I was brave enough to open myself up and let the truth free, he was the last person I should expect to be the one by my side as I did that. I didn’t imagine he’d give me the support and patience that I would need. Not that I should expect anyone to.

Fuck! He was driving me crazy.

Now I wished more than ever that I had put my foot down about having bodyguards. The thought of firing Jen just so I could get rid of them had crossed my mind quite a few times. Yes, it was that extreme.

But I’d never do it so it was on me to find a way to live with Jameson and all his intense hotness that I couldn’t shake.

Welcome to my awesome life.
