“Good. Go to sleep, dove.”
“Since you’ve left me wrung out and boneless with your mind-numbing lovemaking, I don’t think that will be an issue.” I rose up on my elbow so that I could look down on him.
His eyes were closed. I put a finger on his mustache, giving it a little pet. It was such a thick black thing, and yet was incredibly soft. “Hmm?”
“I told Jack you were nice to me.”
“I’m sure that reassured him.” His voice held more than a little sleepy amusement.
“Oddly enough, I think it did. Like I said, he wouldn’t have let me go off with you if he was truly worried.” I stroked Alan’s eyebrows, lovely curved black lines above his eyes, then traced my finger down his nose.
“Mmhmm.”
I studied his face for a minute, taking in all the lines of his jaw and chin, his cheeks, and those glorious eyes.
I snuggled into him, closing my eyes and trying to visualize the face I’d just seen. My mind skittered away to other things, like the sweep of his hair off his forehead, and the line of his shoulders.
Mentally, I shook my head, and told myself that I couldn’t change what life had dealt me.
Besides, right now, my life was anything but unpleasant. My way was clear to get the training I needed, which of course was of paramount importance. I pretended I didn’t hear the whispered thought that Alan was fast becoming just as important to me, instead enjoying the sense of fulfillment that I was finally taking charge of my life, and making it what I wanted.
I just hoped that Alan wouldn’t mind me writing him down for a whole lot of participation in said life. At least for the present.
And who knew what the future would bring?
SEVEN
“Alan.”
A weight pressed down on him, pulling him to the surface of sleep. His hands immediately went to discover what it was that had settled upon him. It was a soft, silky, warm weight, one with delightful curves.
One that giggled when he tickled its ass, asking in a husky voice, “Did I wake you?”
He cracked an eye open to examine the green eyes that were watching him with the bright interest that seemed to draw him into their depths. He rolled the eye over to see the clock on the desk. “Yes, but I should be up now anyway. I must have been more tired than I thought I was.”
Hallie smiled, a purely feminine smile that instantly filled his groin with blood. “You worked very hard last night. Do you always do such lengthy foreplay?”
