I toss back the last of my drink to extricate my arm from her grip.
“Yeah, actually they probably will.”
“Well, that’s too bad. I could have made it worth your time.” She flashes me another look and that’s my cue to get the fuck out of here.
“Sorry to disappoint.” I stand, grabbing my coat off the chair next to me, and return to my friends.
My phone dings with a message, and I pause to open it. A picture of me talking to the woman at the bar from across the bar pops up.
Wren
Looks like you are. Just give me a warning if you’re coming back here? The yoga instructor was going to stop by in a bit to help me work on my form. He said he could help me with some new positions
I look up and glare at my friends. How are they this fucking fast with selling me out? Not that they know it. They all still looked engrossed in conversation, but obviously one of them is a spy, and I can narrow it down pretty well. When Mac flicks a look over in my direction, I know for sure.
I’m the only one fucking helping you with new positions. She hit on me. I walked away, which your spy can confirm if you want to ask her
Wren
She just wanted me to be prepared. I’ll cancel the yoga instructor then, I suppose…
She sends me a little wink emoji, and I know she’s joking. I know she trusts me, and that adds another little spike of adrenaline to my system. Because this girl trusting me is like winning the championship. Like I have a second chance at it, and she thinks I deserve it this time.
“East?” Liv’s voice startles me from my phone, and I tuck it away quickly, hoping she didn’t see it.
“Yeah?” I look up at her, and she gives me a little smile, and I feel like I’m about to get the mom version of Liv.
“I have a big favor to ask.”
“What’s that?”
“Well, the rest of us were all talking and we kind of want to do our own thing for the evening. I guess Waylon planned a dinner and stuff with Mac. And Liam and I might do the same. Ben and Chelsea are going to some meet-up thing tonight too. Which kind of leaves Wren alone. It looks like you might have had other plans,” her eyes flick over my shoulder to the brunette, a little frown forming before she looks back at me. “But do you think maybe you could keep her company? At least for a little while? I know she’s not your favorite person, but maybe it’s an opportunity for the two of you to try to find some common ground.”
“No problem. I can take her out to dinner or something.” I shrug.
“You don’t mind?” Liv’s eyes search mine, and I hope I’m not giving anything away.
“No, like you said. Opportunity for us to try to get along. We can talk sports if nothing else.” I try to give what looks like a half-hearted smile, even though inside I’m grinning like a fucking asshole. Because now I have the perfect opportunity to take her out somewhere for real.
“Just be nice to her, okay? She’s really exhausted right now, and I feel terrible that we do so much couple-y stuff without her. I don’t want her to be too bummed.”
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ll be very nice,” I say before I can stop myself.
It must sound, exactly like I mean it because a little smile flits across Liv’s face like she knows something I don’t.
“All right. Well, I’m trusting you with one of my favorite people. Remember that.”
“Yes, and I know you’d wield my QB like a blunt weapon if I fuck up.”
“Look how smart you are.” She grins and reaches up and pinches my cheek as I roll my eyes.

“DoI have Liv to thank for this dress again?” I ask as we’re eating dinner.
“Yeah.” She runs her hand over the material absently as she looks at it. “She brought it over tonight. Said that you were taking me out to dinner and knowing you it would be somewhere fancy.”
“Interesting.” If I didn’t know better, I’d think Liv was trying to push us together.
