“Me too,” I confess, and his eyes flick up to mine, something behind them I can’t quite read.

“Wren—” he starts but then my phone starts blaring with a call, and I look down to see it’s Liv.

“Fuck,” I mutter, noticing I missed a ton of text messages from her.

“Hello?” I answer it.

“Oh my god. I was about to have a heart attack. Where are you?”

“I went to the bathroom and then I ran into East. He was um, showing me the VIP suite up here that he got for us. I’m sorry. I got distracted by all the pretty bottles of liquor. You guys should come up. I’ll come down and get you.” I make a face at East, and he just shakes his head.

“Oh god. Okay. Kenz and I were so worried,” Liv’s voice sounds less panicked.

“I’m sorry. I’ll be right there.”

“Okay. See you in a minute,” she says before she hangs up.

“Is that a problem? I didn’t know what else to say.” I look over East who still looks unsure and a little rattled. I’m guessing he wasn’t planning on us having company so soon.

“No. It’s fine.” He shakes his head, but his brow is still furrowed.

“What’s wrong?”

“I just want to fuck you without immediately being interrupted by our friends. I guess that’s too much to fucking ask for.” He laughs.

“That would be nice.” I smile at him. “Let’s one of us feel crappy and leave early, okay?”

He nods, and I kiss his cheek before I run off to get Liv.

TWENTY-SIX

Easton

We manageto sneak out early, letting my brother take over the tab while the rest of our friends enjoy the open bar and view from the VIP area. And by the time I get her back to the hotel room, I feel nervous. My stomach rolls and my chest is tight because I’m about to do a thing I’ve never done before. And there’s a high probability that I’m going to get rejected for it and ruin our little hateship in the process. But I don’t think I can do another two days like this.

“Oh. I have the perfect idea!” she shouts excitedly from the other side of the room as she tears out of her shoes and jacket.

“What’s that?” I ask absently, my mind too focused on what I need to say to her.

“Hot tub and rosé?” She points to the hot tub outside. It’s lit up against the night sky with plumes of steam rolling off it, and the mountainside framing it in the distance

“If that’s what you want. I think I’ll do a scotch though.” I need something strong.

“Naked?” She gives me a little devious grin.

“Let’s start with something on, yeah?” Because I needed to concentrate, and her body makes that impossible.

“Okay. Back to ‘Operation Go Slow’ again?” she teases me as she goes into her suitcase to look for a swimsuit.

“Something like that,” I say as I walk to the minibar to get something to steel my nerves.

When we get into the hot tub, she looks over at me, a little flicker of worry dancing over her face.

“Is everything okay? If I really hurt your feelings, East, I’m so sorry. I definitely didn’t mean to. And your brother even knew what I was up to.”

“How?”

“I don’t know, we gave each other like a wink-wink, nudge-nudge type thing before I walked up to him. He knew I was just trying to rile you. He saw the girl and saw me and knew I was being a jealous bitch. Trust me.”
