“You sound like your husband and Colt. Always a buzzkill.” Joss shakes her head.

“Maybe, but I just want to see these guys get the things they’ve been working so hard for. Screwing it up at the last minute because you party too hard and then make dumb decisions like getting on a motorcycle in the rain with no helmet? I love Tobias. Don’t get me wrong, but he’s his own worst enemy so often.”

“He is. It’s strange too, given how smart he is. I just feel like he could do so much more with his life if he wanted to. Be more like Ben and Colt, but he chooses not to. I don’t get it.” I shrug.

“Yeah. He’s got depth.” Joss gives me a curious grin.

“What?”

“Just the way you’re talking about him. Seems like you might have a crush.”

“I do not have a crush.” I flash a look at Joss, worried she’s going to spill more information than I’m ready for the rest of the table to have.

“It would be normal if you did. All that time you’re spending together cooped up in his house. Taking care of him while he’s injured and needs you.”

“It’s not like that at all. In fact, Harper was just talking about setting me up with a friend, and I agreed. Right?” I look to Harper to save me from this conversation. I didn’t need anyone to think I was crushing on him, let alone anyone who might report that information back to him.

“Right.” Harper side eyes me in the process though. In a way that makes me think she might not totally disagree with Joss’s assessment of our situation. “He’s a cute professor. I think they’d make a great couple, so I’m trying to get the two of them together,” she explains to the rest of the table.

“Ohh. A nerdy guy. I like those.” Violet smiles.

“Tobias is nerdy. That entire fucking library he has? He’s like king of the nerds,” Joss pipes in.

“You know about the library?” I look at her confused.

“Uh… yeah. I’ve been in the library.”

“When?”

“At a party a while back. Colt took me there.” Joss grins.

“Colt took you there, or Colt fucked you there?” Harper laughs.

“Both.” Joss shrugs.

“Good for you.” I grin at her, but I’m busy being jealous, thinking of the fact that she and Colt have fucked in that room and Tobias and I only sort through boxes.

“Also… didn’t you try one of Harper’s setups before and need to be rescued from that? By Tobias if I remember correctly?” Joss grins deviously.

“Maybe.”

“So see… I think maybe the complete nerds aren’t it for you. Maybe you need a bad boy. Or an athlete. Maybe an all-in-one. If you’re saying you’re not feeling it with Tobias, maybe we could find you someone else on the team.”

“I don’t know about that…” I hesitate. Thinking of how weird that could get given the past between me and Tobias.

“Oh, I do. I’ve already got a couple of guys I can think of who might be good for you. I’m sure Harper can think of some too. And Violet?”

“Count me out of your matchmaking. I’d rather see Scarlett make her own way. I don’t want to be responsible for another failed setup.” Violet shakes her head, giving me a sympathetic smile.

Joss rolls her eyes at Violet. “We just want her to be as happy as the rest of us. Sometimes that takes a little work.”

“Or a little time.” Violet points the end of an umbrella garnish at Joss.

“Or both.” Harper smirks.

“Okay all of you. I can really find my own dating prospects.”

“Oh yeah? How’s that going? Any dates lined up currently?” Joss bats her lashes at me expectantly.
