Without saying a word, I hold her watery gaze and open my arms to her. I’m not sure I fully forgive her and we will definitely need to talk more later, but for now I simply hug my mama.

“Come on, Thea. You seriously can’t be telling me that you have spent the past two months with him, “fixing the house up”, andnothinghas happened!” I level her with a half-assed glare.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying.” She shrugs, sipping her wine and picking at the non-existent lint on the couch. “Don’t get me wrong, the man is hotter than Hades himself. I would lick that man’s abs like a popsicle on a hot summer day if he let me. But I know what it’s like to tell Cooper Sullivan that I’m attracted to him and have nothing happen. He’s gotta make the first move.”

I’m about to drill her for more information when my phone rings. Sitting up, I snatch it off the coffee table and answer with a smile when I see my brother’s name on the caller ID.

“What’s up Alley-cat?” I say as a greeting.

“Alley-cat?” He chuckles, “Look at you comin’ up with clever cat nicknames.”

Smiling, I’m grateful he can’t see the blush that spreads across my cheeks.

“Yeah well, you can thank Jack for that.”

Alan laughs in response. “Just another reason why we’re friends.”

I roll my eyes, taking a sip and changing the conversation.

“How far out are you?”

“Should be there in less than an hour. Was actually calling to see if I should stop for a quick bite to eat before I get in.”

Glancing at Thea, I catch her eye while I answer him.

“I think we were gonna order pizza.” My words come out as a statement to Alan, but I raise a brow in question toward Thea. She nods enthusiastically, springing up from her spot on the couch and heading toward her bag on the kitchen table.

“Oh hell yeah. If they have a chicken bacon ranch pizza, can you order me one?”

“I can do that.” I laugh. “See ya soon!”

Hanging up the phone, I get up and join Thea in the kitchen. She looks up at me, raising a brow and holding up her phone.

“Please tell me you guys have an android charger here?”

I grimace, waving my phone before setting it on the counter. “Both of us are apple users.”

She throws her head back with a groan. “I keep putting off getting a new phone. The battery life on this one is shit and keeps dying.”

Dropping her dead phone in her back she sighs.

“I told Coop I’d let him know when we were ordering food so he could wrap up his work and join us. He’s looking forward to meeting your brother.”

I raise a brow, not missing the faint blush that stains her cheeks. She looks out the backdoor, chewing her bottom lip.

“I mean you can use my phone.” I hold it out to her, but she’s shaking her head.

“The only numbers I have memorized are my Ma and Pops. Everything else just gets saved on my phone.” She sighs, leaning against the counter.

“Why don’t you go run and get him then? I’ll order the pizza and clean up a bit.” I motion to the few dishes in the sink from making brownies earlier.

“Jackson was already hesitant to leave you alone with me here.”

I roll my eyes, heading back to grab our empty wine glasses from the living room.
