I knock again, but this time I hear some muffled noises on the other side. I place my ear against the door, wanting to make out the sounds.
A spike of adrenaline rushes through me and my heart pounds against my chest. Flashbacks of the last time I was at her door and she didn’t answer play over in my head. At least the door isn’t cracked open this time.
What the fuck is going on?
“Serena?” I knock again. Third times the charm, I hope.
The handle turns slowly, and the door creaks open.
I swear, time slows down when I see him.
Hiram Hooskins.
Opening Serena’s door.
What is he doing here?
His mouth curls into the creepy ass smirk he had with me. It churns my stomach, making me nauseatedandinfuriated. Whenever I see him, all I want to do is throw my fist directly into that long, pointy nose, breaking it in half. It’s just a bodily reaction, I can’t control it.
He looks suspicious. This whole fucking situation feels wrong.
He passes me, not saying a word, and walks down the hall to the elevator.
And, I stand there, paralyzed.
Where’s Serena?
