“Yes, ma’am,” I say as I lead her back into my living room.
I bring her to one of the couches. She lies down immediately. The second her head hits the plush throw pillow she’s already dozing off.
I close the double doors so that she doesn’t catch a chill. Then I give her a kiss on the forehead before I head into my office and order that food. I select Chinese for our repast since there’s a wider array of selections.
After ordering food for a small army, I shed all my filthy clothes and head into the shower. Having the water running down my back melts away all the stress that comes with being on high alert. I’m still too buzzed to get some sleep. Maybe a little later in the day.
When I’m done, I dress my wounds myself. I don’t want to bother Sapphire since she really needs the rest. I want to wake her when the food is ready and waiting.
I get a notification on my phone that the food is ten minutes away. That’s when I wake Sapphire. She opens her eyes and stifles a yawn. Then she stretches like a cat under the sun.
“The food is on it’s way. Do you want to hop in the shower before then?” I ask her with a smile.
She blinks several times. “But I don’t have a change of clothes.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll find something for you to wear.”
“A shower does sound nice.”
I help her up from the couch and direct her toward the shower that I just used. She starts removing her clothes. I walk out of the bathroom to give her some privacy and head toward my closet.
I give my assistant a call and send him Sapphire’s measurements for some clothing. He seems excited for a chance to go shopping and tells me that he’ll have the garments sent over before the end of the day. I thank him before removing a robe from my linen closet and a large t-shirt that will pretty much be a dress on her.
She’s in the shower when I leave the robe and shirt in the bathroom for her. The doorbell rings, signaling the arrival of the food. I head to the front door.
By the time Sapphire has finished showering and is dressed, I already have the food set up in plates on the small breakfast nook in my kitchen. She’s wearing the robe over the t-shirt. I take a moment to appreciate how beautiful she looks as she takes a seat and brings a spring roll to her mouth.
“My assistant will have clothes for you sent over in a couple of hours,” I say as I take a seat as well.
“You’re being too good to me,” she says after swallowing.
“That’s because you deserve it.”
She blushes. Then she places more food onto her plate. I do the same.
Over the meal we share, we begin planning for the future. We focus on being able to defend ourselves so that the other clans won’t get a jump on us ever again. We will no longer allow for our clan to hurt the way it did before.

Gallant and I are washing the dishes in the kitchen when the doorbell rings. Gallant dries his hands on a washcloth and goes to see who it is. While I continue placing dishes into the dishwasher.
All in all, I think we had a great planning session over what can be called a late lunch/early dinner. Thank the dragon gods he ordered a lot of food. We finished an order that’s good for ten people.
Dragons can eat. Especially after we do something strenuous like win a battle against two of the most powerful clans on this planet. They will never catch us unaware again for as long as I’m alive.
“Your clothes have arrived,” Gallant says, holding several shopping bags in both his hands and showing them to me.
My jaw drops. “This is way too much.”
“There are more in the living room. I think my assistant went a little overboard.”
“You didn’t have to do this for me, Gallant.” I take one of the bags from him and take a peek inside. I spot a flowy skirt that’s in beautiful earth tones.
Gallant’s expression softens and there’s clear desire in his eyes. “But I wanted to. Sapphire, when I saw you getting hurt by Rastus and Logan—”
I place my finger on his lips to keep him from speaking more about it. “As you can see, I am more than fine. You stepped in just in time and everything turned out for the best.”
