I take to the sky and coordinate the attacks from above. This way I can keep an eye on both sides as they harness the power that Mother Earth has given us. Branson’s battalion is the first to make contact. His warriors are ruthless in their dispatching of the enemy.
The ice dragons are taken with their heads up their asses. They scramble to get their defenses up and launch an offensive. By the time they know what’s happening, the earth dragons have already slain several of their warriors.
Giant spikes form out of the ground, impaling unsuspecting ice dragons. Their soft bellies are no match for the spears made of rock that come at them from below their feet. One earth dragon can take out three or four at once.
A sense of pride fills my chest. I knew from the very beginning that my people are strong. All we needed was to awaken the potential of our might. The ancients got it wrong when they thought they couldn’t handle the powers that they possessed.
I look to the west and Arthur’s battalion just made contact with the fire clan. Explosions of flames and mud disturb the land. I remind them that fire cannot harm them for fire is of the earth. They must push back their fear for them to win.
It seems that the reminder is working because Arthur’s dragons don’t hesitate. The use wherever is within their reach as weapons against the fire clan. Stones become bullets and shards of rocks become swords.
The clash is instantly brutal for the fire dragons are made fierce by the fact that they are relentless in their attacks. Lava leaks out of them like blood on a wound. Arthur and his warriors have their hands full, but I believe that they will prevail. They know what they are doing now when it comes to harnessing the powers of Mother Earth that I’ve shared with them.
Confidence can do a lot for a warrior. That’s what Gallant has had from the very beginning. I have to keep reminding myself not to worry about him. He knows what he’s doing and I can’t afford to become distracted.
What the ice and fire clans didn’t expect when staging their armies outside the city is that we have more soil to work with. Within the city, it’s a challenge because we must work through the asphalt and concrete to be able to call on the power of the earth. We would need to break through the city streets just to have better access to the earth.
That’s actually a disadvantage because of all the damage that it can cause. At the same time, the fight is harder to hide from the humans. A building collapsing isn’t exactly something that just happens out of the blue.
On these fields of battle—like literal fields—we can make the ground run like liquid and bring the rocks to life. We are closest to the earth and can call upon its strength. It’s a boom to our people that we do not take lightly.
One earth dragon manages to rend the ground like paper, swallowing an ice dragon whole and burying him alive. His screams are covered almost immediately. In my opinion it’s a quick and painless way to die if I were given a choice.
No injuries. No broken bones. You just return to the earth from whence you came.
If you really look at it, the offensive capabilities of the earth clan are more efficient. Another of our dragons flicks his wrist and the ground crates a shield against the ice attack of the other side. Then with another move of his hand the shield becomes a wave that smashes down on several ice dragons and crushing them under its weight.
Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. When you are called home by our great Mother, who must heed Her call.
But, despite our new powers, the sheer numbers of both the ice and fire clans make it difficult for us all around. I can see that they are attempting to circle our smaller number in order to overwhelm us from all sides. That’s what I feared while we were planning this offensive.
I send out a warning to everyone through a psychic push.
Attention! All Earth Drakhana! Do not allow any of the fire or ice dragons to surround you. Or else everything might be lost!I telegraph outward.
They have to remain a firm line and not allow any attacks from behind.
I get an affirmative from the generals and the commanders.
You got this, babe, Gallant conveys telepathically, sending a warmth toward me that gives me the comfort I need in this time of great stress.
Remember to focus!I admonish him while smiling internally.
He merely chuckles. I shake my head.
A contingent of earth dragons concentrate on lobbing giant rocks at the advancing fire dragons. They are like living catapults, but with better accuracy. They find their targets and explosions happen the moment a rock makes landfall.
Fire dragons are tossed aside like flimsy paper dolls. It’s certainly a sight to behold. Like a giant hand made of stone comes down and swats them away like the flies that they are. If my brethren keep this up, we will certainly win this fight.
Even with the lava attacks of the fire clan, Arthur’s forces are holding their own. They are able to block the flames or smother them with the earth. One of his dragons brings his tail down hard, which causes a deep gorge to open with the earth. Fire dragons fall in one by one before another earth dragon closes it, ensuring that those who have fallen will not return.
Battle is a brutal and bloody business. I certainly have no stomach for it. Watching my brethren get injured or worse turns my insides. But, as Gallant once said, we must protect the pride of our clan, so fight we must.
The tide turns in our favor when our dragons begin spewing poisonous gasses from the maws. Both ice and fire fall to their knees, suffocating before ultimately keeling over. Despite our lesser numbers, we are advancing.
I don’t have any time to celebrate because in the distance I spot the reinforcements that I saw from the ice clan that were making their way to the city. The same for the fire clan. They are beefing up their numbers as well. If nothing is done, we will become overrun no matter how powerful our strength.
I spot Gallant on the ground, fending off attacks on all sides. He causes the ground to shake, knocking his opponents off their feet. Then the ground they fall upon becomes quicksand and swallows them whole.
