“I agree, it’s unlike her.”

“We have to call her parents.”

The voices continued to whisper around him. Why were they being so quiet? They should be trying to wake him up.

Pain shotacross his body and he sat up with a gasp.

“Fuck!” He rubbed at the pain in his chest.

“Finally. You’ve been out of it all day. I found you at the gym this morning, you were out.” Max approached.

“Mr. Sutton, welcome back.” A woman approached. “I’m Nurse Britta.” Her golden eyes glowed as they roamed over him. “Before there’s a chance you fall back under, I need you to ask you something and need you to answer honestly.” She waited for him to nod before continuing. “Do you have a mate you’ve been ignoring?”

“I’m not trying to, she keeps pushing me away.” He swung his legs over the edge and stood.

“Mr. Sutton, please sit back down,” Nurse Britta commanded.

“I’m going after her.” He shook his head.

“She’s on her way.” Robert ran in the room. “Her father answered her phone.” They shook their head. “Having a mate is sacred, why would she push you away?”

“I don’t know.” Tyler took a deep breath. His chest was loosening.

She was getting closer.

He was just as confused as everyone else appeared to be. As soon as she was in his sights, he wasn’t letting her out of them again. No more fighting this. No more space.

She was his.

She coughed and pulled at her necklace. It felt like it was tightening on her neck even though it felt as loose as ever. She went to yank it off when the memory of her receiving it came flooding in.

“Ella, this is a special necklace. You need it because you’re a special girl.” A red-haired woman smiled. “It’s going to help you as you grow. You need to keep it on.”

“Forever?” Ella’s young voice questioned.

“It will seem that way, but someday, you’ll know when it’s time.” The woman glanced back at her parents. “They don’t understand, but someday you’ll make them understand.”

“Okay.” Her young voice whispered.

“This necklace will also remind you that you are never alone.” The woman’s face faded.

Ella grabbedthe necklace with both hands and used all her strength to break it apart. The moment the chain broke, the ground beneath her feet shook.

“Ella, what are you doing?” Her mother glanced at the necklace in her hands. “You’re not supposed to take it off.”

Fucking finally, bitch!A raspy voice spoke in her head.

Ella smiled.

You can hear me now, huh?

“Yes!” Ella’s eyes watered.
