I’m nervous, distract me. Tessa, on a scale of one to ten, how was your date with Luc tonight?

Tessa

An eight.

Sara

What would have made it a ten?

Jade

Sex.

Hahaha, Emma just muttered “it’s always sex with you”.

Sara

Okay, Chris is here.

I just got in the backseat like a weirdo. As if he’s an Uber driver. I think he’s laughing at me.

Emma

I move into my office and turn my laptop back on so I can track her progress. I’m also trying not to obsess in thinking about Luc. What would have made the date a ten? My first thought when Sara asked was not sex or Luc staying the night but a commitment. Like maybe, if I’d gotten the courage to ask Luc to be with me, it would have been perfect.

Sara

He’s staying on the right route so far.

We’re leaving the city limits.

I wish it was daylight so I could see where we were going. I should have called earlier.

I’m super unsure if I’m creeped out because of some gut instinct or if it’s just because the German countryside is creepy at night.

Um

We made it.

Emma

Um? What does that mean?

Sara doesn’t answer for a while, and I distract myself by getting ready for bed instead of worrying about my best friend a thousand miles away.

Emma

SARA!

Sara

Sorry, sorry. Everything’s fine. The house is a freaking mansion. It’s really nice. Chris showed me right to a guest bedroom and I have an ensuite and everything.

There are goddamn tassels on the duvet and decorative pillows.

Chris does not look like a duvet and decorative kind of guy.
