“That’s so great! You both deserve to be happy!” Aurelia beams. “Tell us the details later!”
“I am so happy for you,” Finn says warmly. “Congrats, brother.”
Dario nods, smiling at me, while Felix hugs me.
My mother squeals happily all of a sudden and hugs Rosalee. “Now we will be family for real,” she giggles. “Rosy, let’s meet regularly.”
Rosalee hugs her back. “Absolutely, Flora.”
“But without our men!”
“Girls only,” Rosalee agrees.
My father and Brian exchange a skeptical glance. Ha, serves them right. Look at them now, being upset that their mates might do something without them. Ha!
Out of the corner of my eyes, I can suddenly see Ella and Dante approaching... with Dave. Here it comes, I think. Now it’s getting interesting.
Dave ignores all of us, bless his ignorance. He has only eyes for Annalise. “I always told you,” he says proudly. “You will always be my princess. And now you are one! Oh my God Annie!”
At least he has dressed accordingly, wearing dark-blue pants and a blazer. It seems like Jun likes the sight too…
Annalise hugs Dave. “When I saw you in the crowd, I thought I was going nuts! But it’s really you.”
“Of course I came!” he says.
“So young man,” one of the elders – Bernard – approaches us and eyes him curiously. “You’re the new spokesperson for the humans?”
Dave stares at him in honest surprise. “Like… for all of them!?”
I notice the lingering annoyance in my father’s eyes and wonder what the heck Finn twisted and turned to make the Council agree to Dave being there.
“Well,” Dave grins. “Anything for my Annie.”
Annie laughs and squeezes him. “We’ll start small,” she snorts. “With you being the spokesperson of our favorite coffee shop.”
Bernard laughs in his good-natured way. “I see. I was joking.” He smiles a bit. “But we’ll never know what the future will have in store for us. Today we had a human watching a ceremony no unmated human has ever watched before. And for the first time in many years, one of them is here on our sacred grounds. Even the smallest things can make an impact.”
Dave looks a bit confused and a tiny bit intimidated. However, it just dawns on me that now that everyone saw Dave here, we might be able to bend the rules and laws a bit. He might be able to visit Red Claw now, maybe not too regularly. But it’s a start.
Bernard congratulates Annie and me one more time before taking his leave.
“Did you like it?” Annie asks Dave. “The ceremony?”
“It was stunning. And there is so much eye candy here! No one prepared me for it.” He waves at Finn. “My sexy edge-lord is here too.”
“At your service, Dave,” Finn answers, completely unfazed by Dave’s silly comment. When my siblings and parents look at him, he just shrugs. “You get used to it eventually.”
Anders nods his agreement.
“Annie, you absolutely stole the limelight, hottest woman of the night, I swear!” Dave states excitedly before he turns to look at Celine. “And Celine looks breath-taking too! But when doesn’t she?”
Celine smiles, which is a rare sight. “Thank you, Dave. You look great too!”
Dave keeps an arm around Annie and squeezes Ella’s hand. “Ella, honey, you look fabulous as well. That haircut! Audrey Hepburn with a hint of Emma Watson!”
Ella grins. “Exactly what I was going for.”
"I'm so lucky to be surrounded by all these beautiful women," Dave sighs dreamily.
