“Yes!” Emily beams, jumping forward a bit. She has changed so much during the last two weeks. I can’t believe it. When Annalise met her for the first time, she kept to herself and barely talked to anyone. Look at her now.
“Luna Flora and the nurses at the infirmary know Emily is with us often,”Emerson tells me.
I nod. “I know you would never go behind their backs.” I pause. “She looks so happy.”
“She is good for Daisy too,” Emerson admits. “She is such a kind little girl.”
Mom,I link my mother out of the blue. I don’t do that often, I tend to wait to talk to my family directly, but in this case, curiosity wins over.I’m at Emerson’s now.
Is something wrong? She asks me instantly, sounding worried. Is something wrong with Daisy?
No, I’m just surprised…
Emily?Mom asks, and I wonder how she just guessed it so easily.
Are they considering adopting her?I ask hopefully.
I think they are. I’m going to let things proceed naturally for now, but I would like to talk to Daisy about everything in a few weeks. I hope this means that Emily has finally found a family.
We don’t have an orphanage at Silverlake. Unfortunately, we do have orphaned children, but we always manage to find someone in the pack to take them in…most of them have aunts, uncles, grandparents or older siblings here.
Emily was the exception because her parents didn’t have any relatives. I know that it didn’t sit right with my mother that Emily wasn’t growing up with a family, and she was frantically searching for a good solution. Now it seems that Emily has chosen her own family, giving Daisy and Emerson the closure they need.
Ari and I help Emerson collect the last few strawberries before stepping inside. In the kitchen, I spot Annalise carrying Fleur around while chatting with Daisy. Emily is sitting at the kitchen table, finishing a drawing. “What did you draw?” Annalise asks with a bright smile. “It’s so pretty. Is that you?”
Goddess, seeing her with these two kids does something to me I didn’t expect. We haven’t talked about this yet, and I know Annalise is on birth control for now… but seeing her like this! I can’t wait to have my own family with her.
Emerson smiles knowingly at me.
“Yes, this is me,” Emily says proudly. “And this is Fleur, and Uncle Em, and Aunt Daisy. This is the house and the garden.” She points at another spot. “Here is Silver Lake. Oh, and this is you, Annie, with your wrestling partner Liam.”
Ari snorts next to me. “Wrestling partner?” she whispers. “Anything we should know, Liam?”
I chuckle softly. “Codeword for mates, apparently.”
Daisy scoots closer to Emily and hugs her softly. “This is so beautiful, darling.”
“Do you want to keep it?” Emily asks. “It’s a present.”
Daisy brushes over her hair softly. “Then we will give it the best spot in the living room.”
Emerson laughs happily. “Come, Emily. You can choose the best place for your picture. Later, I will build a beautiful frame and put it on the wall.”
She beams, jumping off her chair and hurrying to the living room.
I turn to Emerson. “Seems like our women get along quite well,” I say while nodding towards the kitchen.
Emerson looks genuinely happy. “I’m so glad, Alpha Liam. Your mate is so kind.”
I look towards Aryanna and point at Daisy and Annalise, and then I say in the most serious tone I can muster. “Want to join the baby talk?”
“Hell no,” Ari says, horrified. “Emerson, wait for me! I will help you with the picture frame. Hand me an ax!”
“An ax?” Emerson asks, surprised. “Beta Aryanna, we are not going to cut down a tree. I already have a few pieces of wood prepared to carve them.”
“Whatever,” she says. “I will help.”
“Just let her bang on something, and she will be happy,” I say in all seriousness.
